Roses Banned

Lovers all over Saudi Arabia were crushed on Sunday when the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice banned the selling of red roses and scarlet colored items in celebration of Valentines Day. Their excuse is that Valentines Day is unIslamic, as it is relating to St. Valentine, and as a result it encourages relationships out of wedlock. Warnings were issued to shops all over the country and they immediately removed all the merchandise. This is truly sad, I believe that sexual relationships out of wedlock are unIslamic, but the concept of love is not!

What authorities have not managed to comment on is whether married couples will be able to send each other flowers. Heck what if I wanted to tell my mother I loved her with some flowers and I lived in Saudi Arabia? The only people who gained out of this decree are those courageous enough to sell roses ‘under the table’ as the black-market price has sky rocketed. But Saudi Arabian have said that they will be leaving the Kingdom and driving to neighboring countries, like Bahrain, to celebrate their love!

This is sad. Love is not a sin and will never be.. People should have a day to celebrate their love, just because a person who created valentine wasn't islamic they want to ban this. This is unfair.

You can celebrate love on any day of the year, and in several days of the year if you wanted 2 between you and your loved one. Doesn't have 2 be on the day of a saint.

Do the morons celebrating Valentines celebrate st. Grorge's day, st Patrick's day, st john's day and all the other saints days? NO. If we celebrated all these days as Muslims then we might as well celebrate Xmas & convert 2 Xtianity.

If u don't have the brain capacity to realize that love is for everyday & anyday & should be spontaneous, then u don't deserve 2 have a brain.

St Valentine was killed on the 14th of Feb, why on Earth do u see that as celebratory of love?

On top of all this it is in Islam that to celebrate a day especially made in the name of another faith is sinful. nough said! If u're so concerned about roses & teddy bears then go buy them on the 15th of feb or in march 4 heavens sake.

i don't know what to say about this.
love is not a sin. However, i don't think there should be a day to remind you that you love someone!!! if you love someone you should show them every single day how much you love them. not only on valentines day!!!

Sam,

Thats the point ... and i agree with you so why should officials make statements on such an issue, even people that never heard of it will hear about it and eventually will celebarte it.... officials in SA should just ignore the celebration or maybe suggest another day for muslims to remmber to say i love you to their mothers and wives.... thats not a sin and many people these days just forget human relation because of the fast life we are living.. etc .... maybe christians are celebating ST Val. but Muslims are just celebrating a day to say i love you which is NOT a sin and its a day that is marked so that no one will forget it...
