I don’t know how many of you will have seen the trailer for the new Egyptian movie ‘Heena Maysara’ but it sure has sparked a huge controversy in nearly every part of the Arab world. For those of you who haven’t seen the trailer it includes quite a sexual scene between two women- Ghada Abdel Razek and Somaya El Khashab. This scene was all it took for the movie to go under heavy attack. The thing is homosexuality is present in the Arab world whether or not we like it or are willing to accept it, but should it be the subject of our movies? If you ask me then the answer is yes.
Regardless of the fact that our culture and religion state that homosexuality is strictly forbidden the youth must be educated as to what it actually is. By knowing the problem we can try to prevent it and by being aware of what homosexuality is and how people fall into it then we could actually be preventing its occurrence! I think this movie is an excellent way of breaking the boundaries that have been set up in our world.

I AGREE
I watched the movie during EID, and found in wonderful.
The acting, directing, editing, and writing where all top notch. It's great to see Egyptian Cinema finally return to it's glory days with these kind of movies.

***THIS IS MY OPINION***
people dont become gay, they are born that way.
gay boys produce more estrogen than normal.
why would anyone chose to become gay anyway? it doesnt make sense. considering the harsh things they face from society.
You cant prevent homosexuality. ask any scientist or doctor.
as for the movie. i think it should be the schools and parents educating the children, not the movies.
u guys.. i've seen the movie just yesturday, and its a great one.. and i think its okay to show that we have the problem of homsexuality in our culture. it's there and we really cant deny it .. putting it on screen doesnt mean we're proud of it at all! it means we're acknowledging it to be able to deal with! it's a fact present that we cant really escape.
i'm just upset that the people left everything else in the movie and just pin-pointed this issue when the movie has dealt with so many other issues that are very strong and very effective.
this was a great movie, despite the fact that it has some mistakes, it doesnt deny that it is an enermous and important creation in the history of film making in the arab world.
if this movie didnt achieve anything we have to at least thank it for letting us realize what is it that others in our same countries and could be a couple of streets away from us go through... i really hope we can step out of the closed circle that we live in and stop taking things just by looking at their outer crust by saying how we shouldnt show homsexuality in our movies or not and really focus on how important this work is.
as for the person who said "ewww did the men become extinct..." i'd just like to tell him/her plz grow up, in another movie the case of men was shown, in Yacoubian Building. and thou i'm not a supporter of homsexuality i believe it is a form of sickness, i'm sure if those people could choose to be normal they would.. so lets atleast not make fun of them. aderss and critize the problem and not the people themselves. people who suffer from homosexualty, ESP in the Arab world, have gone throu alot and thats how they reach to that point!
sorry for the long post!
bubblegum???
nobody was born gay!! pp choose to be gay..
imma have to agree with everyone here. there are gay ppl in thiw world but as us being arabs no need to show it on tv
ms independent@
you said all i had in my mind... thank you so much.. we don't do that... it's not the right way.. even if it's true we can talk about it in a book or having discussion in schools and not on the movie... i dnt agree!!!
crazychic
take a chill pill/there r hundred million wayz of spreadin a message........... n do u really think there r ppl who r going to the cinemas to sympthize with them hell they r gonna laugh their guts out..............its just too disgusting for me to understand the entire concept..........ok fine i can understand dat there r ppl in this world that have a serious problem 'PHYSICALLY'............but i cant understand the fact dat there r ppl who r psychological homoz i mean plzzz those ppl dont have sickness they r just sick n dirty minded.
jay, wafa,masreya.....thank u for ur comments
i appreciate it.
ok its a great movie !! .. and i think that ppl here in egypt begin to understand how poor people are living and what problems they could face !! and the homosexuality happens all over the world in all counrties west or east ! and in the movie nothing was over .. never judge thing that u had never seen !
you should encourage this movie to know how poor people are living and to thank god for every single thing !! and this movie really changed alot of ppl's life ...
Ok this is pathetic ... most of those against the movie r against it from the trailer !! they havent even seen the movie what kind of ajudgement is that !?
its about time we stop being shallow n look thru the depth of thing . so plz if u wud like to share ur opinion at least u shud have seen it or if ur not intrested in seeing it then logically ur not qualified to talk abt it!.
as for my opinion there maye have been some weak points in the directing but still its a great movie and for all whose upset cos of the problems shown in movies.hello??! who said art is only for entertainin and thru out the year especially in the egyptian cinema it was a way of takin a close-up on whats goin on the society . if art doesnt speak of us then its not art .
about the homos scene for gods sake! it doesnt encourage homos at all ,its just a snapshot showin that there r homos n they just like straight ppl who r sickminded uses the poor when he becomes worth nth except a body !.
I wish i were in Egypt to see this movie, but i beleive that we are going in critical areas that has to be on surface to be solved properly, most of us doesn't know any thing about " el3ashwa2yat" and what's happening on it, i heard from my freinds that police can't enter many of these places, so we can imagine what it looks like, and how many persons can be rescued from their.
if we will leave the main idea of the movie and concentrate on the homosexual relations which i beleive won't take more than minutes in the movie, we will keep falling like we are now.
we have to wake up and fix instead of putting our heads in sand which becomes a habit and will pull us down and down.
it's only my opinion and i respect all against
hehe.. who ever said i need a chill pill, cmon we all have different point of view i was just defending mine like ur defening urs!
i really just hope all those critics are ppl who have seen the movie... the homsexual scene was well placed into the movie it was just placed there to provoke the ppl.. and i went to the movie, which was 100% fully packed and no1 laughed when the scence came up. i think people are mature enuff to realize its a problem. it shows what is it that some ppl go throu and how life can be so harsh on them from all side and prespectives!
it's really important to kno how this scene was used in the movie so u wont be judging outa context!
as for the person who said there are so many ways of spreading info... being a media student trust me the message wont receive as much exposure and notice in other media, esp its a movie released in eid! esp that the target of this movie is really us, not some1 else.. its those ppl who can afford going to the movies and enjoying their time... the purpose of the movie is that we get out of our comfort zones and look at things from a different prespective...
i really dont get it why some people dont wanna show these scences on tv! i dono who ur trying to hide it from! homsexuality is in every single nation...
i still beleive this movie is a great creation, im not denying that it has some mistakes... but atleast it has some purpose! i really think this movie got me thinking about all sorts of stuff that people go throu.. and appreciate alot of things i have and look at those ppl differently!
Ahmad, know what? you are right ! i'm with you when you talk abuot: "if we will leave the main idea of the movie and concentrate on the homosexual relations which i beleive won't take more than minutes in the movie, we will keep falling like we are now."
by the way, you are from where? cause you said: "I wish i were in Egypt to see this movie"
peace
I DON'T THINK THAT ARABS SHOULD BE DOING THESE SORT OF MOVIES. IT MUST REMAIN A RUDE AND DISGUSTING THING TO WATCH NO MATTER WHAT. OUR CHILDREN WILL START TO THINK THAT THESE OUTRAGOUS ACTS ARE OK TO DO.
Welcome to the new world order of Globalization. There are more coming at you. I will teach you and you just copy cat..

10 years from now when homosexuality outbreaks in the Middle East remember this moment in history and praise my follower Khaled Yousef for it. I will feed you my poision mixed with honey so you would not feel it. Women are my target to break all taboos and undermine morality...

Well of course its a great movie
why do movies have to be always fictional with a happy ending ?
this one shows the true meaning of society these days , and yes we all know that homosexuality is spreading around the world , and more and more in the middle east. i don't see a problem in portraying it in the movie , i actually think its one step ahead for the middle eastern people to start having a free and open mind. am not saying that its great , but its the truth .
Thank you Nour. I want more people like you to help me spread my poision fast. I want all young people to learn from this movie and copy cat. Soon it will be the normal thing to do. Let's keep pushing the boundaries of morality little by little until you all fall off the cliff... The sooner the better..
heeeeeeee heeeeeee ha ha

I watched the film and thought it was one of the worst films I've had the misfortune to come across in my lifetime.
For starters, there isn't a plot. The acting was horrible ( remember Ahmed Bedeir's "typing"). The directing is rubbish (a woman from the "ghettos" gets a financial break so she decides to buy an evening dress and go walk a poodle by the beach ? Seriously ?). And I'm quite fed up with the concept of people not having any other option but to turn to crime (prostitution/selling drugs) because they have it rough.
Enough said.
which is worst?? such great movie or the scenes of the islamic preaches spreading their violence in Iraq and Pakistan??....for god sake.....face the reality even for ONE time in your life .....gay is not learned as said above by Bubblygum, it is born with the ppl...i am raising the hat for Khaled Yousef and all young men like him.....god save him from the islamic groups,if the word "islamic works!!! instead of pointing to the great movie, fight the pooverty,sexuality,rapping,.....etc.
