New words are being coined every year. I recently found out that there’s also a selection for the word of the year. Leading U.S. dictionary Merriam-Webster selects the 2007 word of the year – it’s W00t! Want to know what this means? Merriam-Webster defines it as expressing joy. Persons who are into video games typically use this word. Previously a lot of people usually say “yay” when surprised or when happy about something. But now the new term is w00t. And take note how this word is spelled. You take a W and then two zeros instead of O and then a T – w00t.

Merriam-Webster chose this word because according to them it “blends whimsy and new technology”. This term is a solid embodiment of the technological world that we live. Just take a look that the construction of this word, taking together some letters of the alphabet and numerical character and coining them into one coherent word. This can be construed that the English language is evolving. Maybe we can expect some more words like this in the future. Following w00t is the word Facebook. This word is now also being utilized as a new verb, which denotes adding a person to the list of friends in the networking site Facebook.com.

This is silly! W00t is not a word! It shouldn't blend in with the rest of the real English worlds!
Facebook is still a bit more logical ... it makes sense. W00t doesn't!
