Cuba Celebrates Che Guevara’s 40th Death Anniversary

Che Guevara

The world is full of heroes that have shown bravery and patriotism to their country. Yesterday, Cuba celebrated the 40th commemoration of the death of one of the guerrilla leader Ernesto “Che” Guevara. Guevara, an Argentine-born doctor helped lead the Cuban revolution in 1959, that brought into power Fidel Castro. To honor Guevara’s death Cuba held a memorial rally at the mausoleum where his remains lie. The people who attended wore shirts and hats that have his portrait. Some 10,000 workers and students came to Santa Clara where a bronze sculpture of Guevara carrying a rifle is in place.

Guevara however did not die in that revolution he fought together with Fidel Castro. After the revolution Guevara went to Bolivia to become a guerrilla. On October 8, 1967, helped by the CIA, the Bolivian army launched an operation where he was captured. The next day he was shot. He was only 39 years old when he met his death.

Ernesto “Che” Guevara helped bring independence for Cuba from US-backed military dictator Fulgencio Batista that is why the Cuban people love him as one of their heroes.

The question is, Is he really a hero? Or is it just a fabricated story that has got all the bad sides of him erased?
