It seems that more and more writers and respected celebrities are deciding to make the subjects of their movies or series more and more controversial! It started a few years ago with ‘Mothakarat Moraheka’ which tackled the issue of adolescence and the changes and needs of that time in every girl and boys life.
The movie sparked huge debate in Egypt but no one could deny it held a message and the movie did quite well. Following this we saw a surge of movies including ‘Baheb El Seyma’ which challenged strict Christianity and ‘Omaret Yakoubian’ which discussed everything from adultery to politics to homosexuality.
However, it seemed that these taboo topics were only being used in movies and people said if you don’t want to, don’t go see it, but now the story has changed and series are becoming controversial too. This season a new series ‘Ra’e Aam’ will be invading our homes only to discuss rape and the abuse of women. The topic is an important one to be discussed but what about children who will have access to this at home? The danger of television is that it is inside the home, movies can have ratings to stop unsuitably aged individuals from watching them but series are there in front of you waiting to be watched. What do you think: is it beneficial to open up such controversial cases on TV or will the harm exceed the benefits?

I say, its about time the issue of "RAPE" was tackled in our arab society. Unfortunately, alot of rapists get off scot free because the girls in our society are too ashamed and are too scared to tell anyone. We have made them that way by away assuming that the girl is at fault.
I, personally, congratulate all the people involved in this series for being brave enough to tackle such an issue as important as "RAPE".
We need to show people that women are "VICTIMS" in cases of rape and not the criminal. We should make everyone understand that this issue should never be swept under the carpet because it brings shame and dishonour on the family.
I hope this series is a wake up call for all.
Good job on the article and topic choice Karim...Very impressive, keep up the great work.
I just want to mention one thing. Yesterday, I was watching the series "Thol Imra2a" shown on New T.V. and it was the first 7al2a. Before it began, the director has a warning that states something like this: Please parents don't let your children watch this series alone, watch it with them.
I thought this was a smart move on behalf of the director, to give a heads up warning indicating that this may not be appropriate for your children to watch. And I also think that all series should do the same thing, if applicable of course.
