16 year old Egyptian singer Soumaya came into the world of music with a blast of controversy, her voice was likened to Shereen and she was even accused of copying her. Soumaya comes from a very musical family and during her studying of music in Egypt, composer Ashraf Salem discovered her and composed her entire album for her. Now Soumaya is speaking about the accusations and her new album ‘Bakeyt Betwhashny’. Soumaya says the comparison between her and Shereen is unfair and that no two voices are alike and she hopes with all her heart that she can one day reach the level that Shereen reached with her music.

What hurt Soumaya most was when she sang ‘Alb W Rah’ which is originally sung by Osama Abdel Ghany and the song spread like fire on the internet but underneath this imitation of the song was Shereen’s name and not Soumaya’s. Many people were unhappy with the video clip that Soumaya filmed in which she follows a handsome model pleading with him to come back to her. People have argued that the video clip gives Arab girls a bad image and bad idea. All we can do is hope that Soumaya’s mind matures as much as her voice so she can decide what the right way to be in the music business is.
