Largest carpet in the world

This biggest carpet in the world for sure won’t fit into your living room. Iran unveiled the hand-woven carpet that measures 5,625 square meters (60,546 square feet), which is about, or more than the size of a soccer field! Wow, this really took some hard work involving 1,200 weavers in three villages in the northeast. Want to know the duration? Well, it took one year and a half to finish the pieces. Said carpet will be delivered to UAE where a new mosque is being constructed.

The carpet is formed in nine pieces so they will be flown to UAE separately. And it will take 2 planes to transport them all to UAE and reaching there, they will have to stitch them all together in order to cover the central prayer area of the Sheikh Zayed mosque, which is set to open in the fall. The whole carpet took 2.2 billion knots of wool from Iranian Town Sirjan and New Zealand. 25 colors are put into play using 20 natural dyes. The whole project cost $5.8 million and half of the said amount will go to the villagers. It hoped that through this massive carpet, the carpet-weaving industry would be revived.
