The atmosphere here in Petra is unbelievable! People are shouting & jumping & dancing! Live broadcast from all over Jordan show the excitement & happiness; people are out on the streets celebrating their own Petra, the magical city.
We can't believe it! This is fantastic! I'm jumping with joy!

However, when the World's first ever ... travel guide, made by the Athenians of the Classical Greek era for the Athenians, one may have noticed that their crowning jewel, The Acropolis of Athens was left out of the original "7 Wonders", only because it was in their hometown and they could see and visit the "Sacred Rock" every single day.
Which is why, today 07/07/07, I really hoped that The Acropolis in Athens, Greece would have been announced as one of the "New 7 Wonders"! UNBELIEVABLE!!! Since The Acropolis has NOT(???) been voted, let us all hope that, in an act of goodwill from the British Museum, the original and "seized" Parthenon Marbles will finally(!!!!!!) be returned to Greece. Then and only then, the history of The Acropolis of Athens, with its most impressive architectural masterpiece, the Parthenon, will be completely RESTORED!!!!!!!!!!

It's very happy to know the new 7 wonders of the world. I am from India @ happy to know that our Taj is also here,but are disappointed about Eiffel, Statue of Liberty etc.

It would be a great to mention the ranking and I as an Indian feel the proudest to realize that the Taj Mahal in India was voted the first best in the range of seven winners , an award much deserved for this great monument of love ,patience and never loose attitude of the great Indian people.

Mido2990, shou hayda? Why the pessimism? The Pyramids are to retain their status alongside of the new wonders, and even if they didn't, that would not have made a difference to their historical importance, allure and magnificence...

To OMG: Read more about petra, maybe you'll know whats so special about it..!! You dont know anything it seems..!! Don't be so disappointed about the pyramids in Egypt.. They Won.. The pyramids were so special that they found it useless for people to vote for it. So they decided to put the pyramids in the New Seven Wonders List without voting!!

The 'Great Pyramid of Giza' was/is one of the 'Ancient World Wonders' that is still standing today (other ancient world wonders are destroyed mostly due to earthquakes).

Congrats to all but i really think that the original 7 wonders of the world will rematin the wonders of the world specially the beautiful Pyramids in the most beautiful country Egypt...these votes were taken by phone and throught the internet so they don't have a great value However petra is an amazing place and deserves it...

The person who wrote this obviously does not know that the only wonder that was excluded from the voting and was automatically added on the list was the pyrimads of Egypt. Which happened when Egyptian journalists protested the idea and said that the Pyrimads must stay in the list. And that's why they are now 8 wonders instead of 7, so get your facts right.

Omg MABROOK JORDAAANN!!! Oh wow I'm so happy I', Jordanian too and my dad was yelling and screaming and jumping around, waaay too funny to watch :D This made him so happy he's like a kid again. Wow, I mean, I voted with like 8 different e mail addresses, and was totally freaking out when I read this, since I had to be out during the announcement.. Yeaaahhh Jordan will def be put on the map as a very important country and now tourism and finance will go up for it thank God. Congraaatttsss Jordaaaannn and to all arabs (and especially my dad..Hahaha) We deserve this, Jordan is WAY too beautiful to overlook!! G-O J-O-R-D-A-N!
