Iran launched their very own English-language satellite TV as their way of balancing the news, especially regarding the events that are happening in Iran, being aired throughout the world by the Western TV channels. Prior to the launch, the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), Mohammad Sarafraz said in a press conference that the new channel was established in order “to counteract the lies of the western media”. The English-language television channel which they names as Press TV will be a way for them to show another side of the news that are coming out.

So this new 24-hours TV channel is located in the heart of Tehran, employing over 400 staff, with 26 Iranian and foreign reporters all over the world. To cover the latest events they have reporters based in Jerusalem, Gaza City, Ramallah and West Bank to as far as New York and Washington. Viewers can expect half-hour news reports, various documentaries as well as talk shows from other countries. This new channel is huge that it is expected to be a fierce competitor to established news channels such as BBC and Al Jazeera International.
