A lot of journalists are attacking Lebanese singers Wael Kfoury, Najwa Karam, Redha, Hoda Haddad and Fares Karam for singing a song for the Syrian President Bashar El Assad to support him during the last elections. The singers are not responding to the media and refused to comment on any question … except for Najwa Karam whose Manager replied by saying that the song is 7 years old and that the writer of this song had already passed away 5 years ago. It seems Najwa sang this song after Hafeth El Assad died in support of his son Bashar … and not during the past elections!
It seems strange that at this difficult time for Lebanon such a song circulates through the Internet … if these singers sang the song in support of the Syrian people and in hopes of getting the relations back on track again, there would be no harm … but to sing in support of Bashar El Assad and now be completely silent about it … seems too fishy!

Money talks!
as for Najwa, the song being 7 years old is no excuse.
They could have sufficed with words about Syria and the Syrian people, but no they had to cheapen themselves to sing about a dictator, no other description for him. A dictator nonetheless that seems a better alternative for some of his people than a more frightening fate.
I suppose all humans can bought for a price. YA3 3layhoun, 2arafouna. Gee I wonder if they showed their support for our army who is in dire need right now, but no the army cannot pay them enough.
Wael's song has to be one of the most nauseating yet, sang in his usual romantic style praising the Syrian lion, just the right amount of the 'barf factor'.
Well, honestly,I was so shocked to hear this!!!!I'm totally not against the Syrian public, but in the difficult situations Lebanon is passing through esp the latest incidents in the North and the fact that many 100%proven evidents show that the Syrian regime is supporting all sorts of terrorist attaks and turbulent actions in Lebanon ,this case really raises a big question mark!!!
why should the Lebanese singers sing for the one man who threatened to burn Lebanon in the blink of an eye if anyone ever turned against him?!!this is shame!!!!And most of the Lebanese people agree with me in this context....If these singers were holding concerts for the syrian Public,we wouldn't have said anything because Lots of syrians over there are innocent and are not involved at all in that dirty game and conspiracy the syrian regime is holding against the people of Lebanon...but singing to a aymbol of tyrance is totally controversial!!!!These singers should definitely appologize from all the Lebanese people because this is a big insult to us......
I'm totally with S.M.S and Marianne with their opinions!!!!!they owe us one big apologee!!!!!!!
why should anyone ever sing for a symbol of terror??!!!!!!I can't seem to have an answer! Can someone help me?!!!!!
ITS A SHAMEEEEEE :s:s I dont know what to say.... í like wael and najwa a lot but its strange :S:S enoo they have to sing for lebanon spec now in this time not for those who hate lebanon. But money is money :S
What are the names of these songs? I'm interested in listening to them so I can make up my own mind.
money...money...money!they buy their country their honor and can buy their respective mums for money!
Wake up people!!! they are professional singers they are not prophets nor preachers besides they are not the 1st nor the last ones who sang/will sing for a president, king or even a political party leader.
Today Syria is the devil...it's just funny how times change!!!
What TunisianGuy do you mean by your last sarcastic sentence??
The Syrian government has always been the devil to us. The funny thing about you and some other Arabs is that just because Syria is an Arab country, you refuse to see the role it plays in creating chaos in neighbouring countries.
Let me ask you what is the difference between the presence of the USA in Iraq and the former presence of Syria in our country? To me nothing much, both entered in the guise of helping while in fact it is to further their own interests. Syria did in Lebanon exactly what you accuse the USA od doing in Iraq with the blessing of the Iraqi government.
Syria came to Lebanon under the pretence of stopping the civil war, but all it did is fuel it more by arming sides against each other, even arming Amal to fight against HA(its present ally now but not when it Syria was not allied with Iran ;)). They stole, raped and tortured Muslims and Christains alike, whoever opposed them so do not go saying that "funny how things change...", because nothing changed. Just because our former governments supported it whether because they were corrupt, cowards or whatever, it does not the Syrian government has ever been our friend.
Just because they are professional singers, it does not they let go of their dignity for the highest bidder. It is not the first time, yes but circumstances are different.
You may fail to comprehend this but I, as do many Lebanese, feel that we have two enemies, Israel and the Syrian government. I will not say Syria because we all know that they are as they say"maghloub 3ala amroun", they are as much victims as we are even the ones that defend it because they have no other choice.
Sorry about the mistakes in my comments.
S.M.S
1st of all my last sentence wasn't sarcastic.
You were fast to label me along with some other Arabs who refuse to see just because...
Let me just say I wish all Lebanese stop dealing outsiders hands...such beautiful country deserves much better leadership.
The Syrian government interfered in Lebanon so did so many other governments in fact with the exception of Hisballah every other Lebanese faction supported and betrayed other Lebanese faction....it's an old complicated political reality that should be forgotten and moved beyond for the sake of Lebanon.
Again I may be the last person to defend the Syrian government but also I grow suspicious of people who think they hold monopoly over the truth.
Going back to the singers I maintain they are professional singers like almost every singer in the Arab world participate in the political propaganda...so why you want them to be punished for doing so just because you don't like the party they sang to? after all all what they did is sing not take up arms...
They should be boycotted and punished, imagine Kazem Al Saher singing for George W Bush...
The Lebanese do have a hand in what happened and what's happening now but there is no denying the Syrial role in what's happening right now in my country.
We do not hold a monopoly on the truth, bas ma3leih if we do not embrace the Syrian government with open arms, you have to have lived in Lebanon to know...
Sorry TunisianGuy if I sounded aggressive, I need sleep badly and it is a sensitive issue to me, well us :)
You are not always right miss perfect. Think before you write. Syrian has helped lebonan when the war start between Lebonan and Isreal. Right

S.M.S
I'm glad you corrected your earlier comment and made a distinction between Syria and syrian government. I was gonna snap at you for a second. I'm a Syrian, and there is a vast difference between the Syrian people and the Syrian government.
When you all talk about Syria, make sure you make that distinction. Do not Generalize!!!
ps. Syria is not the only country in the Arab world that has a despotic regime. 99% of the Arab world is infested with some form of dictatorship.
Actually Audrey even in my earlier comment, I made that distinction. I said that they could have about the Syrian people and the country and not about its president.
Audrey,
I am guessing now you mean the second comment about the Syrian government being the devil.
I agree with your last sentence, however this is not what we are discussing here.
I would be the last one to talk about the Syrian people in any hateful way :)
Alright let's clear up the ignoarnce, misconceptions and mere lies..
OK marriane you said " the fact that many 100%proven evidents show that the Syrian regime is supporting "
TILL THIS day there is NOT one stitch of evidenc that proves the syrian govenrnment' is resposible for the terrortist attacks and bombings in lebanon..WAIT for the UN tribuneral.....if there is not one stitch of evidence you cannot say that there's 100% evidence..let's rememeber that the first inveastigator of the hariri bombing was a biased vengeful person..whose whole reports was based on the testimonies of people eho were paid by saad hariri..2-3 people RECANTED their testimonies...and the more than 100- page of the first UN report was saddled with half-truths, contradictions , and gross lies....
all this political talk on LBC, NBN is NOT backed by 1 ounce of evidence...so be careful when you go around accusing the syrian gov't!!!
here's my poltical anaylsis... Syria already has a lot of pressure, the US IS THREATENING TO invade it ,....they're already accused of many murders...the question is why would they continue to dig a deeper whole by carrying on what the political inept are saying!!!!!!!!!!!
there is DNA, material evidenc that the mossad bombed/killed 3 polticians is Syria in the last couple of years....
the MOSSAD (Israel) has a lot of interest in "divide and conquer".....it is to their advatage to pit the Syrian gov't against the Lebannese gov't
about money....so you might have a point/ it sound credible what you said about the mony..but do you think it's NOT the first time that lebanese artists kissed ass for money habibtee S.M.S
Why do leb singers continue to sing in masiri, khaligi and sometimes mahribi???????? For cultural reasons...it doesn't look like it....when your album is half masiri and half khalaigi...that's not cultural reason ...that's for money.....I'm not against sinign in masisri or khaligi for culrutal reasons..
and then S.M.S the link you made by the syrian role in lebanon and the US invasion of iraq was really disgusting..
take out your history books S.M.S
1) President Elias Sarkis personally telephoned hafez al Assad and perosanlly requested the syiran army intereven to save the maronites' butt
and that is exactly what happened in lebabon...there is no leb historian that will dispute that...
the muslims with the LEFT were about to run the maronites over...if it wasn't for Syria..lebanon would be run 100% by muslims...
the LF along with other forces welcomed the syrian army with open hands...the syrian army helped the LF defeat the palestinian at Tell al zaater..its only after 2 years after Gemayel decides to make a name form himslef and attack the very army that came to help him ..does Syria start helping and piting the sides aginst each other...
Hafez Assad was shocked and dumbofunded when bachir gemayel went aginst him..because he spent all that money and all that war matrial to help the maronites and this is what he got in the end
anyways this is getting too long
the point is ...if you don't know what your talking about don't say it....if you want to make a histoircal point makes sure its supported by academic scholars and historians and not MAY CHIDAC on LBC.......
The Levant is one..stop trying to divide or pit the people aginst each other (Leavnt refers to the indigenous Syrians, lebanese, Palestinians, and Jordianians..foreign polish & russian jews are not indigenous to the area!!
peace
Sam,
I hope you all have a great time. Two weeks is great regardless of motherly interference, it is still a change of scenery and a chance to catch up with family and friends.
Also not too long to make you want to catch the earlist plane back.
You too take care of yourself and have a GREAT time "Miss Smartypants"...
I so agree with you about politics, they all suck but you cannot help but get inflamed even though you realise it is pointless and irrational.
I know my history books. I have always guessed your "2awmi" from your admiration of Maria Maalouf so that makes you very very biased.
My opinion is the same, many similarities between the situation now in Iraq and what happened and is happening in Lebanon, self interests rule whether you are an Arabic country(even a very sisterely one) or a western country. No need to try and discredit me because I really do not care about you trying to belittle my opinion with such predictable comments such as..."if you don't know what your talking about don't say it....if you want to make a histoircal point makes sure its supported by academic scholars and historians and not MAY CHIDAC on LBC......."
You have to forgive for not being as well read as you.
Thank you.
My last comment is obviously addressed to George, The Levant Professor.
*sisterly
*to forgive me.
I can't be bothered really correcting all the mistakes.
Bye Sam.
Regardless of how Syria entered Lebanon, you cannot dispute that the Syrians were in Lebanon to advance their own interests which had nothing to do with empowering the Christains, they included
"* Economic self-interest. About 1.2 million untaxed and unregulated Syrian workers are employed in Lebanon generating over $3 billion for the ailing Syrian command-and-control economy. Lebanon also serves as a closed market for Syrian products, not widely desirable in other parts of the world.
* Diplomatic advantages. During Arab summits or conferences, Damascus often uses Lebanese proxies to advance its own political interests. When Syria seeks to sponsor anti-American resolutions, Lebanon will most likely do the heavy lifting.
* Geostrategic gains. Lebanon is the most direct land route to invade Israel (and vice versa). Also, Lebanon is host to a multitude of Syrian-backed terrorist organizations, which operate with greater impunity there than they do in Syria itself and use Lebanon as a launch pad for cross border attacks on Israel (Damascus would never dream of allowing terrorist groups to attack Israel directly from Syrian soil)."
Like I said regardless of the support Syria had in Lebanon, it was an occopying force that terrorrised our people in order to remain on its land.
In regards to the UN TRIBUNAL, I wonder why Syria is opposing it so much if it did not know that the biggest head in Syria will be implicated in the asassinations. You know why because it knows it cannot 'play hockeypockey' with the USA under the tables as it once did thus doing whatever it wants without consequences. Too bad for Syria that the USA's interests in Lebanon do not meet with its own much anymore.
http://www.lgic.org/en/help_syria.php
You would probably call the link that I gave historically inaccurate and biased, but do we not all twist history to suit our point of view ya George habibi as you have proved ;)
By the way,
The quote about Syria's advantages in ocupying Lebanon is taken from an article titled predictably "The Syrian occupation of Lebanon". I felt I needed to state that.
Sorry again WALEG about my multiple comments, feel free to delete whatever you need to :) I have more to say on the subject but will refrain from doing so I promise :P...
George i agree with you 100%. Life is a glorious stand and with this in mind the truth will prevail.
Did I dispute the historical facts that you mention about how Syria entered Lebanon on the request of 2 presidents Sleiman Frangieh followed by Elias Sarkis who later made 2 requests to the Arab League for Syrian troops to be removed from Lebanese soil, correct or not?. However you cannot deny that Syria fuelled the crisis in Lebanon, are you denying the atrocities it committed? I find it absurd that you would deny it. Its squashing of everyone that tried to oppose or threaten its presence in Lebanon with the blessing then of the US and the Arab league???
Zionist is a word that some Lebanese try to use against people who do not share their opinions, whether its zionist or not, are you denying what's written in the link, can you?
Are you saying that Syria is not trying to use the current situation in Lebanon as a bargaining tool in its games with Israel and the USA?
By the way YES I GO to school , do you? A person does not resort to remarks such as the ones you used(do you go to school? hilarious, silly comment) in debating another unless they do lack fundamental belief in that their argument is 100% correct.
Do not belittle people because you will find that some do it more than others. I study psychology and believe me in saying that such tactics succeed in making you seem lacking, not me. Do you lack enough self esteem to resort to self-righteousness methods as a child would in trying to hide it?
You mentioned once how you find Arab girls lacking in knowledge. you know sometimes we see ourselves reflected in people, so maybe what you see in these girls is what they see in you. I mean Levantine history is interesting but to always go on about it like you seem to do can be BORING and though it is nice to know history, the present can be interesting too. Just an advice so you do not seem like a chauvenistic, condescending male with shame and self-righteousness issues to your current partner or future one. Am I boring you because I am not talking about the Levant ya Girgi?
I am interested in your research methods, have they been discovered yet?!!!!
I went offtopic a bit but that is to tell you that when you address me, address me with respect as a grown educated man would if you do not mind and I will afford you the same. I always make it a policy to interact with people in the way they understand best.
So you do not share the idiology of the SSNP which Maalouf belongs to? interesting! I can be wrong in my assessment sometimes but not very often.
We have to agree to disagree on our view of Syria.
