It was Elissa who made me realize how Arab celebrities are following the lead of Western actors and actresses in becoming a marketing technique. Nancy had her Coca- Cola advert, Amr Diab and Hayfa worked with Pepsi but the one that beat them all was Elissa. Not only is Elissa the new ‘face’ for Lux and has an advert featuring her that is repeated TV and her own bar of soap but she has also signed a contract with the Gold Manufacturers ‘Lazurde’ and ‘Vogue’ for sunglasses.
The question I have regarding this is an ethical one, is it ok for celebrities who some people idolize to take advantage of our love for them to make some extra cash. It is obvious that the motivation behind people like Elissa and Nancy to make these adverts is to make some extra money but what if someone who idolizes Elissa is so affected by these ads that all her money starts getting wasted on luxury products which she doesn’t need. It gets even more dangerous when people like Nancy advertise for Coca- Cola which has been proven to cause some damage in your bones when drank in excess, is it ethical?

of course artists like Nancy and Elissa are going to make advertisements for various companies, after all they are entertainers and they wish to make money. I believe that it is up to the people to be smart and decide for themselves if cola is good for you or not, I mean after all, if you like her music, go buy her CD's, but if you don't like cola, I don't think you will go buy it just because Nancy is doing an ad for it! if people are stupid to idolize them in such a way then it is not the artists' fault!
Im very angry that Waleg didn't bring any news about Cyclone Gonu that pummlled Oman this week and claimed innocent lives. All you care about is your skanky celebs like Nancy and Hayfa. The truth hurts but you don't give a damn about other people's misiries because they're not Lebanese.
Dear Najdeya,
We are a pop culture and celebrities news blog, you can write an article about Cyclone Gonu that pummlled Oman and also take some photos and send them to us, we promise to publish this article along with the photos for you.
That has always been the case. There's nothing new about this. It's always been buisness. The motivation isn't always for celebs to make extra money, it's actually the company. It's the one that decides who it wants to advertise it's product and draw greater attention. It's buisness, with the use of psychology.
