There have been several rumors regarding a ‘Star Academy Egypt’ and it seems we were nearly right in our speculations! It has been assured that Amr Diab will be hosting a new show that aims to discover new talent in the fields of writing lyrics, composing and singing and that this TV show will go by the name of ‘Al Awal’! The finalization of the decision was prompted by a meeting between Amr Diab and the Minister of Information in Egypt where the Minister proposed to Amr the idea of actually hosting ‘Al Awal’!
The show will probably be aired on Thursdays on the Egyptian Channel 2 and will consist of a one and a half hour competition between the contestants. The show will be split into two ‘levels’; the first being a semi-final-like competition between contestants from the same provenance in Egypt (e.g. Cairo, Alexandria), while the second part will be an Academy where the winners from the first section will be taught all they need to know in the field of music. The results for the first level will be decided by the judge panel which will include musicians Amaar EL Shorai and Sayed Hegab. Questions about whether the ‘state’ of Egypt at the present moment will allow this show to be a success but I guess we will have to wait and see!

i think i will like it a lot bcz i adore amr diab....he's the best...he's the king
Wow.. i heard about it from another website and was baffled how dod Amr Diab accept to be the host of a music program. He's too good to be doing something like this/ I hope this benefits his career and makes him more successful even thought i highly doubt it. that's like asking Najwa Karam or Elissa to come host a show. i hope the show meets the standards of Amr diab and isnt masqarah like all the other shows
i dont think it will be as good as star academy!!! everybody is trying to do a show like star academy!! and have u guys seen Album on MBC its not that good, trying soo hard!! and the clothes that they dress the competitiors issss ugly... they spend all their money on razan... like their vocies suck except maybe for two ppl... i watch the show cuz of razan she is going to be more famous than the competitiorsss
i luv amr diab, but idont think that this show will be as successful like starac
no way, its true every program now is tryin hard to copy that, but they re not comn anywhere
like album, its sooo borring and not tha proffesional like the LBC
I think MBC (home of 'album') is much more professional that LBC. It is not about that though; essentially it's about audience appeal. Lbc attracts young shabab say3a day3a more than mbc or Dubai 4 instance. I think the best Arab channel at the moment in terms of format, style, organization and balance is Dubai.
Arabic TV is still very poor quality in general. Not enough money is spent in the right places. We need Arab programme makers, broadcasters or whatever to start making more programmes about Animals & Wildlife, history, , environmental, documentaries, 'around the world in 80 days' type programmes (not crappy holiday programmes that no one can afford 2 go on; they will only portray hotels, beach houses & not the essence of other places), more culture programmes, more about poverty etc. We need less fashion, less of those Oprah Winfrey my husband left me for a frog programmes (depressing). It's good to know what is happening around the world on domestic, political, environmental...etc levels but Arabs tend 2 feed the same 5 types of programmes over and over again 2 us. And whenever they or I'll say us coz I'm one too, but whenever we want to convey anything Historical or Social then it's done through dramas and soaps and quite frankly I can not stomach over paid, plastic actors trying to represent poor people, honestly!
In the boardroom:
Fareed: 'Let's make a programme about divorce!'
Hassan: '...what genre should the programme be?'
Fareed: 'How about a drama?'
Hassan: 'Good idea, get Nabila Obeid in 4 lead.'
Boutros: 'Manal we need to educate the people about the Romans; they had a huge role in global society'
Manal: 'Oh smashing pumpkins, that'd be something totally new. So many stories so little time'
Boutros 'How about we make a drama? We could really capture the realism & the brutality.'
Manal: ...claps her hands in disbelief...
Boutros 'Right I'll play Caesar & u're Cleo & we'll cast as many cheap rate actors as poss. Expenses, expenses. Oh & we need some actors 2 play Jews but don't tell them that b4 pay day.'
Hassan: ‘Let’s make a biography about Saddam’
Manal: ‘Yesssss how how how?’
Hassan: ‘Drama, fetch the script writers’
As u can tell Manal’s just the yes person.
By the way UK TV latched on2 that idea already & made a drama about Saddam & sons, which I did not watch.
Plus we need less 2 dimensional presenters. Presenting is actually supposed 2 be more respectable than singing. It requites social skills, natural abilities 2 be on the level of the audience & 2 create an understanding, it needs skilled delivery of sentences or messages at times and confidence etc so it is not being reduced. It is experiencing something new and perhaps showing a different side to your personality. Our presenters are wooden because they are much more like mouthpieces than presenters.
typo
...requires social skills...
I wonder why you put a female Sam in the role of a yesman. Was it a deliberate or an unconscious attempt on your part? to project your belief(quite rightly so) that Arab females are mere subservient role players as opposed to movers and shakers? :D. I quite enjoyed your written portrayal of Arab studio executives and their boardroom antics.
In regards to the LBC and the demographics it appeals to, you know shabab say3a. unfortunately they make the biggest percentage of Arab audiences, I do not mean the say3in but young people in particular.
I read once and I don't know if these statistics are correct, that two thirds of the population in the Middle East are under 25 years old!
At first I didn't notice 2 b honest...I've been brainwashed. Then when I took note of my accidental bias,I decided 2 put emphasis on her role by naming her the 'yes person'. Mind u if they work in male dominated environments then they're probably saying yes 4 all the wrong reasons. I think even in the West behind the scenes it's mostly the guys making the decisions. Women r just there, but even then they generally have quite a short lifeline.
That second part is true, we're populations of bubbling hormones. Actually more than a male/ female thing we have a big problem where youth and elders r concerned. Mainly in that when a man in the Arab world gets a job, he holds on2 it untill he's dust. They don't give any oportunity for shabab, especially the poorer ones who make up the largest group. There's no education or intent on moving on, making way as in 'u've had your time now let them have theirs'...etc We're totally void of those ethics. People 3andena still do rotten jobs but we keep them untill they turn 500 years old. It's just so ruthless, I feel sorry 4 our youth.
Y can't the show b on the egyptian satellite channel coz that way it wil have a wider audience especially to those living outside of Egypt!
u r the king keep going...
