Egyptian singer, Sherine Abdelwahab and Rotana Audiovisual, the largest producer and distributor of Arabic entertainment, held a party on the beginning of this month. The party celebrated Sherine's signing of a 3-year, two-album contract with Rotana. Rotana will both produce and distribute the album. Naturally, in the Rotana fashion, Sherine's video clips will become Rotana exclusives. However, it is also a chance for Sherine to grow artistically and explore new horizons; she now doesn't have to deal with Free Music owner Nasr Mahrous breathing down her neck. Sherine is one of a series of contracts Rotana is trying to sign with younger talent. Other examples would be X-Factor winner Rajaa, and Sara El Hani.
Sherine Signs With Rotana AudioVisual (A Tale of 2 Stories)
The party began beautifully, with a grand dinner in Cairo. Many Egyptian stars (those who haven't fought with Rotana!) attended, such as Mai Kassab, Ramy Sabry, Mohammed Fouad, Hamid Al-Shaeri, Mohammed Nour from WAMA, Ahmed Saad, Shaza, Mohammed Raheem, Mahmoud Khiyami, Lo'ai, and Nader Hamdi. Actresses Ilham Shahin, Hala Sedqi and Mirna Al-Mohandes were also present. Although Sherine seemed ecstatic at first, the party soon turned sour.
According to eyewitnesses, many journalists began to insult Rotana and then began to insult Sherine. The situation was bad, but it got worse. The rowdy journalists then threw chairs at the stage at each other. Then they broke tables. The party was destroyed, the stars left.
According to one Rotana eyewitness, the "journalists" were mostly there for a free dinner. Another said that most of them were paid to destroy the party. Could it be that Nasr Mahrous paid these men to destroy the party and ruin poor Sherine's happiness?
