Just when you thought it was safe to turn on Melody again, a fancy set of commercials invades your screen. Any Melody junkie will have seen them by now. For the past few weeks a short clip of one of Maria’s previous videos shows, either “Elaab” or “Betekdeb Alaya” , plays and then suddenly you hear a loud “STOP!” and you see a brunette in geisha clothing holding a fan. “Maria: We Regaat Tani”. To the casual viewer, this may look like a video clip commercial. Look closely, however, and you see the Melody Music logo at the bottom. Again, any melody junkie will know what this means:
Maria is back, and this time she’s armed with a long-awaited album, not just a video clip.
It is a little-known fact, but as Maria’s provocative videos were being released, she was taking extensive vocal lessons. Maria’s final appearance on television, on a TV appearance with Tony Khalifeh, gave us a preview into Maria’s vocal aspirations. Why the absence in 2006, though, after endless controversial success?
Maria has been pursuing a record company for a whole year. The way Maria left off from 2005, with the cake stepping scandal and numerous lawsuits, nobody wanted to touch her. Not even Mr. Mubarak’s Melody Music who catapulted her to success along with director/singer Jad Choueiri. So Maria peddled her album around the Arab world searching for a distributor. Fortunately for her, the people at Melody have finally changed their minds and Maria will be back on TV screens soon with a new, less provocative image and reportedly much-improved voice.

i saw maria over the summer in Lebanon at the voir blue (sp?) beach resort. She kept talkng about how she wanted to change her image. Apparently she is also trying to keep in touch w/ her armenian background as she was singing and teaching her new armenian song to the people at the beach...but no one was paying much attention to her...

(with no voice) lol called maria more like a bimbo not a singer! and i live in the states but seen her videos on the melody channel, shes so cheezy haha wow i cant believe what's happening to the arab world today, most of the singers loook the same coz of plastic surgery and nuditiy and all the other weird things they are doing! all i gotta say is wow!
