Everyone knows Saudi Arabia's hot desert doesn't see much rain. And this year's season has been no exception. Rain is needed and badly so. But the Kingdom isn't going to wait and leave it to chance. It's going to rain by hook or by crook as the Saudis are looking to science for a solution. Artificial rain is created by spraying a passing cloud with chemicals forcing the creation of water and then pushing the cloud to a designated spot. Four small planes will do this by flying up and unloading their chemicals onto it.
Saudi Arabia's Artificial Rain
The government is still hesitant to use this latest form of technology - which has passed through many stages of development over the years- due to the possible harsh reaction from religious extremists who consider it to be against Islam and call it a lie despite it being scientifically proven.
Now high-level officials are in negotiations with leading clerics in order to reach some kind of a “Fatwa” which is suitable for all sides.
Is creating artificial rain playing God?
Well theres two good sides of it :
God has made it good enough for Saudi's to live in the non rained on desert since..Well, forever.
and
People need water. Period.
I can understand with it both, but seriously, peoples gotta live. And water is needed for that~
Now, has the chemicals been tested for allergic reactions, tested to see if its eaten by human or animal and has no side effect, whether it will make plants grow or die, be harmful to the enviorment in any way etc? If their puttin chemicals into the cloud, theres no way it Wont come down with the water~
Waleg from where did you get this story ? We've had enough rain since November and it's very cold.

Bandari,
From several sources ...
I think you are talking about Riyadh; I guess the water is needed in other places :)!
NO I DONT THINK SO ...I MEAN CMON SCIENCE IS MEANT TO BE DISCOVERED ....THINK !!!
Actually it is a good idea to create artificial rain, God would not mind it if people are in need of water. Our planet becomes warmer, its quite normal that people in the Middle East are making their own water, its better than drying up!
Asalaamu Aleikum,
There are various results that can come from this: Islamic radicals will get angry, the chemicals can cause allergic reactions to living creatures and may change the environment, it could bring forth more water... There are many possibilities.
In my opinion, if it was further tested and is not harmful to any living creations, it would be worth a try. Indeed it is artificial, but since when is Islam and Science going against each other? We know we're not Allah/God and cannot surpass him, but we can still create just as long as technology doesn't go overboard.
Interesting argument. My question is if the God is all knowing, mighty, and powerful then how can any of these events take place at all? If I were a God I certainly wouldn’t let my Mankind develop, or explore any place I didn’t see fit.
Its not right to question Him, he does everything for a reason - Maybe he WANTED them to do this? Also, not letting them explore what you see fit would be taking away the wonderful freedom of self choice God gave every one in this world. We choose what to do whether it be bad or good~ Im just worried about how the enviorment and living things will react to the chemicals. i wouldnt think He would mind much if they did it...
if it was possible, i wish saudi could come to london and take some of our rain. its been about 6months since i saw the sun! makes me sound like a vampire! :( lol
