As we get closer and closer to the Terminator era, science is closing the gap on what is science-fiction and reality. We know that Jesse Sullivan who made headlines as the man with the artificial arm had an electric arm fitted to help him with everyday life.
But the hand he had had was very basic just like a claw and couldn't move like a regular hand could. Today, an advanced version of a bionic hand, with five individually powered fingers, has been fitted to a man in Scotland.
Phil Dykes at the National Center for Prosthetics who has been working in this field for 30 years said in Glasgow said
"It's a big step forward."
"It's most unusual...just like using your fingers," Donald Mackillop who has been using the hand said. He demonstrates by using a saw and picking up a bottle of water. The next generation of prosthetic limbs will be to allow each figure to move individually.
Maybe soon, Donald, who lost his hand in an accident 30 years ago will be able to play the piano.
