After 21 hours of surgery at a Saudi hospital, a pair of conjoined Iraqi twins were successfully separated and expected to survive.
"The girls are stable now, and we are approaching stage 8 of 10 stages, which is that of complete separation ... Then they will be placed on separate tables and their wounds will be dealt with by plastic and pediatric surgery," said Sami al-Shalan of the National Guard Hospital.
The two babies are only 11 months old and share more than a sense of telepathy. Zahra and Fatima Haidar not only have the same liver but also the same colon, anus, urinary and genital system and are joined at the chest, abdomen and pelvis.
King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia heard about the twins and ordered them to be brought to the Kingdom to undergo surgery. They come from the poorest area of Baghdad, Sader City, which is also the center of civil violence in Iraq.
But for the brave twins, life will start to be a little more bright in the midst of all this darkness.
Wishing them all the success in the world!
How cute masha'allah. Hope they grow into healthy lively and strong girls insha'allah.
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww! I didn't know about this! Hamdila 3ala il salama! I hope they live till all their teeth fall out.. AGAIN! HAHA! Sadly, MANY and I mean MANY Iraqi children are suffering more than just disformations. Allah isa3idhum...Anyways, take care Zayed and everyone.
how in the world does this article deserve being posted?is this the first time i see new borns being separated?...no.whats so special?
Hey uptowngirl, chill out. What's so special is that they actually survived the misery going on every split-second in Iraq. Instead of bashing them, at least show a little sympathy...
The little darlings are doing well today thanks to Dr. Abdallah Al Rabea who is an excellent surgeon and performed dozens of these operations successfully. :)
uptowngirl, no offence but i'm really surprised you should ask such a question?
Haven't you seen this bit of news all over the net?
You can't be serious!
