A Hollywood movie of the story of Mary and Joseph before the birth of Jesus, had its world premiere at the Vatican on Sunday and won strong praise from the man known as the "deputy pope". An audience of 8000 attended the Vatican church and received five rounds of applause AFTER and BEFORE it premiered !! which is greatly due to the fact it is the first feature film to be previewed at the Vatican."It is well done," said Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican's Secretary of State, who ranks second only to Pope Benedict in the Vatican hierarchy."It re-proposes this event which changed history with realism but also with a sense of great respect of the mystery of the nativity," he told reporters afterwards. "It is a good cinematic event ... the judgment is positive."
the pope did not attend as he was planning ahead and resting for a trip to Turkey while rumors circulated that he didn't want to attend because of an un-wed pregnancy controversy in the film which was later denied by Vatican officials.the film stars are many academy award winners and nominees including an Iranian actress, Shohreh Aghdashloo, who was nominated for best supporting actress for her role in 'House of Sand and Fog'. She plays the role of Elizabeth, Mary's cousin and mother of John the Baptist.a very weird participation wouldn't you say?!
It is filmed in Morocco and southern Italy and tells the story of Mary and Joseph's arduous journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem, where it ends with the birth of Jesus. It also portrays Mary and Joseph as simple, poor Jews and realistically reconstructs villages in Biblical Israel.
Following the release in 2004 of Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, it also is the latest release marking a trend in the return of movies with religious themes, once a staple of big Hollywood productions decades ago.
Proceeds from the Vatican benefit premiere will go to the building of a school in the Galilee village of Mughar which will be attended by Druze, Christian and Muslim children.
do you think this film will spark criticism as did Mel Gibson's 'Passion Of The Christ'? ...i don't think it will offend anyone as multicultural actresses and actors have participated in the making of it.we'll see anyway.
What would you guys think?

just because you hate Mel Gibson, that wouldnt necesarilly mean you should hate this movie.btw this is the work of another director, not mel gibson, just incase you got a bit confused.
'who cares anyway for this stupid movie. crap'

i forgot to ask you,how is this movie a 'lie' exactly?
"Passion of the Christ" why it offeneded people??
The answer is because it showed the TRUTH!!! Yeah, no one likes to know the truth, thats why many people are not reading the Holy Bible and are following fake false religions.
How is the Nativity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ a lie?????
Seriously who need inspiration from the Holy Spirit buddy b/c ur words are full of evil.
Merry Christmas!!! The True Gift of this Holiday is Jesus Christ, the Light of the Word our Creator, Savior, Healer,Protecter, Forgiver, our LORD who gave His life up for us and our sins, He suffered greatly and was buried, (No Greater Love Than His) and He arose from the Dead on the 3rd day destroying death and giving us eternal life with Him in Heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Remember He Died for You! Without Him giving His life up for us we would suffer in death forever, but instead He suffered for us and yet won the victory of death over the devil!Give ur life to Him by serving Him and life will be full of gratefullness happiness peace love hope faith, and He is all those!!!
i agree with you sahar but we can each speak for ourselves.Christianity isnt everyone's religion here.
altho im not Christian, its nice to see that ppl r still passionate about religion. in a world where one feels that ppl r losing there since of direction it s good to no that there r still those who integrate religoin into their lives and who theyr as ppl.
