Thousands of protestors in Cairo and Alexandria expressed their anger at the statements made by Egyptian Minister of Cultural Affairs, Farouk Hasani, concerning the hijab.
The Minister had previously said that the hijab was "backward".
About 5,000 protestors, including a large number of women, after Friday prayers carrying Islamic slogans and demanded the Minister to sacked and trailed for his statements.
The Muslim Brotherhood weren't too happy about it either. They posted a statement on their website saying that "Wearing the hijab is a holy matter that cannot be challenged"
More protests occurred Thursday at the University of Cairo and Al Azhar involving hundreds of students.
Should the Minister be sacked and trailed for what he said? Is talking about religion so sensitive that you can only agree or face angry protestors?
the islam is the last religion after juish and the cristianity. It 's the religion that changes and try to be up-to-date. But there are principals and bases we can't change, wearing the hijab is one of thoose principals.
The Egyptian minister is right.
no you are wrong lebchris, stop inflicting your effing opinions on the rest of those muslim people.since your not a muslim you dont have to butt into their business.to each his own opinion.egypt is an islamic country and wearing the hijab is an isamic principle so who the hell does that minister think he is to try and change the way people live their lives in any way.just because you live your life in a certain way that doesnt mean all people should so f-off.period
WHO the hell is this minister think of himself ?
WHO is he to tell us what to do!
IF ALLAH and MOHAMMAD told us to wear hijab, who is he to say otherwise!
Why doesn't he go tell all the b*t*hes in Sharm Al Sheikh and Gharda'a not to wear Bikinis, or he thinks its a sign of civilization and its good for the tourism in egypt?
I live in Canada, and NOBODY says anything about my HIJAB, every human being respect me for my religion and my veil !
I can't believe such uneducated minister says such thing in an ISLAMIC country.
Lebchris i think ,i 'm certain u have no idea about the islam so please before speaking about a subject, a person, a behaviour.... it's more raisonable even moral to know a bit of it/him.
And if u'll say i don't know u so how can i say u don't have an idea about islam. The answer is so simple, i guess it from ur comment here and about the turkish.
We islamic people , our religion tought us to respect all people and from whatever countrey, coulour, religion.
Well,
I'm muslim, i dont wear hijab
democraty means that we can discuss other's ideas, we tolerate and a lot of other things
I'm sorry,
I m muslim, but I dont find that the nowdays muslims know about democraty
ummm the egyptain ministry has almost always been backwards. Al din Islam is the last one that came from God. he doesn't know what Islam is and the hijab
I'm firmly against trusting any male who dies his hair...too sinister, creepy or vain 4 my liking.
I'm Muslim and I don't wear hijab just because I think that covering the hear doesn't mean the woman won't be attractive any more, or will be safe from bad eyes or whatever they say the hijab protects from.. Also I don't think that wearing al hijab is a sign that the person is educated, polite, and respectful or not.. many women wear al hijab and keep gossiping about others, lie, envy... etc
I really think it's a man thing, there is nothing in our holy book that clearly states al hijab.. Also men are attractive too so why don't they cover themselves as well.. or men are animals they will jump on us and we are not??? Well.. then I'm proud to be a woman..
sorry... I meant covering my hair..
Love you all
im an orthodox christian and i HATE AND DESPISE PEOPLE LIKE LEBCHRIS WHO OBVIOUSLY ARENT MUSLIMS and who also degrade people because of what they're religion is or what country they are from...that clearly shows me that they dont respect human rights(you hear me lebchris?) and they dont respect people themselves.wearing the hijab is not obligatory so why the hell would you want to make it ILLEGAL in an islamic country?..were not talking about saudi arabia here we're talking about Egypt.a democracy does not mean you should strip people of their religious and culural beliefs simply because the freedom of religious, cultural and ethical beliefs are the BASIS of a democracy!a democracy does not mean people should stop wearing the hijab.a democracy does not mean we should humiliate muslims and associate them with terrorists.a democracy does not mean we should be able to talk freely by degrading religions and cultural values(the hijab). what that minister said is the most ironic thing ive every heard in my life....SAYING IT IN A MUSLIM country just made me piss myself laughing.Oh God...please spare us off these people who cant seem to get their heads in the right direction...hahaha God this is just so ironically funny...its just like the time Steve Irwin died being stung underwater.
Aussiegirl, lecture as much as you want.
Democracy? Yes I am democratically stating my opinion saying the Hijab is backward.
For a MUSLIM EGYPTIAN minister to say it, compounds this fact even more.
Next time lash out at the minister, not me.
L3ama ma astalik
Democracy? Yes I am democratically stating my opinion saying the Hijab is backward.
no no no..it is people like you who are backward..it is people like you who cant accept living a MULTICULTURAL LIFE.it is people like you who dont have problems living in such a racially conservative society like Nazi Germnay.don't talk about democracy here because you're resentment of the hijab in a muslim society ,whether it was bacckward or not, is the most controversial, ironic and racial statement ive heard so far.
mafi hadan mina mastool ghayrak inta...ooooh and you're arabic as well...mashalla mashalla tshrfana i hope we keep talking like this eh.
babe ill lash out at anyone who has that same demented thinking pattern as that minister and i dont give a rats ass if that would be you as well...you might reject a lesson or two from me but what i say will raise awareness to morally peaceful people who post out there against racist onesided bastardos like you who if in power today would've been war criminals .
i am a muslim women, however isnt it weird how woman hav to wear hijabs nd men dnt hav 2 wear anyfin , wouldnt u call dat backwardness???
y
y- men should could their arms and legs, its not backward its more demogratic.. also hijab is democratic as womens bodies are seen today as sexual objects..mens bodies have never been viewed the same..
HIJAB IS FREEDOM! WEAR ONE AND U WILL BE RESPECTED!
hijab is ISLAM!
so these stupid govt ministers should shut the hell up!!! caz we can wear what we want!
tunisia and turkey banned hijab! this is a wake up call for muslims..if not all arab countries will ban!!!!!!!! WALLAH
Hijab is backward.
If many muslims think that way, don't blame non-muslim.
It is used to cover women's body to the eyes of men. However it is not the Jahiliah anymore and men have to use self-restraint in order not to consider women as sex objects.
Why do the women have to bear the brunt?
The Hijab would be democratic as long as it is an obligation for men to cover their sexually alluring parts. Otherwise it is backward and undemocratic, as it consecrates the macho thinking of men.
Tunisia didnt ban the hijab ... it banned the Ninja black dress that many girls start to wear during last ramadan ... girls that are mostly cant do nothing to ask for god forgivness so they choose 'altazmout' which is far from ISLAM! Islam came as a religion to take everything easy and in between not to the extreme .. Thats why extrermist of any relgion do harm more than good and end to screw things ... Muslims lost andalusia because of such extrermist :(
Hijab is backward.
'If many muslims think that way, don't blame non-muslim.'
are you for REAL?what country do you think this is happening in huh?a christian country?france?
dude wake up,this is an Islamic country..this is Egypt!!!!!!muslims dont need to blame
anyone..this is a muslims country which is mostly muslim thus the major opinion is a muslim one.they dont need to blame anyone.
'It is used to cover women's body to the eyes of men.'
not only that, but it is an act of obediance,it is modesty,it is purity,it is a shield,it is a symbol of righteousness,it is a sign of faith in God,it fits the natural bashfulness.
'Why do the women have to bear the brunt?'
presuming you are a christian, what would you know about how muslim women feel about the hijab?im sure the biased media has been feeding you some rubbish eh.the only ones who 'bear the brunt' are those who are forced to wear it and that is a wrong in islam.you cannot force anyone to do anythnig against their will until they realize it themselves.most women in islam CHOOSE to wear the hijab.therefore why would they have to complain?listen you don't know what you're talking about you gotta go and educate youself about Islam from an independant, unbiased source before saying any racist bullshit.
'The Hijab would be democratic as long as it is an obligation for men to cover their sexually alluring parts.'
what part is that exactly?their head or is it their legs?listen up buddy, men can only bear their arms and head in islam and they are only allowed to reveal their legs(which i dont find very attractive)only knee high.the rest is practically covered.so what is it about men that is shown and yet, sexually 'alluring' at the same time?
'Otherwise it is backward and undemocratic'
as someone said.you are backward for not accepting islam and the way other people choose to live their lives.democratic is when all people are living together despite their religious beliefs and free from persecution or prejudice(which you are currently showing)on the basis of their colour, ethnicity, culture, religion and sexuality.if you have a problem with that(as you are having now)maybe you should go live in a racist secular society were people seem to exterminate others because of their annoyance, irritation and unwillingness to acknowledge others who dont seem to be one bit like you or them.
unlike you christians,we seem to keep our families together,we arent divorced,we dont cheat because we're lured by the attractivness of the opposite sex who are not necessarily the wife.you christians live your lives in misery, greed, lust.you discriminate while at the same time, you speak about equality of men.the new generation of christians have turned either gay or h$o%m*osexuals and their families who have been cut off their faith dont even care because their christian greagrandfathers/mothers and grandfathers/mothers are DEAD.dont brag about the negativities of our faith when yours seem to exceed ours three times as much.
Yasmeen's last paragraph is just an amazing piece of hypocracy or just blind denial I have ever encountered. It does equal lebchris's comments in prejudice and ignorance(not here but on the Pope's visit to Turkey article) . I am sorry but when ignorant Christains and Muslims(putting the actual 2 religions aside) criticize each other, it does remind us of the little tale of sh*t looking down on vomit.
Sam,
There is this old friend of our family who dies his hair brown and actually highlights his fringe. Try addressing him and not laugh.
*I have ever read not encountered.
Correcting my first comment.
alright alright.i take that back.that wasnt very nice and yesi was being a hypocrite and ive got no problem admitting that and i hope i avoid saying such a thing again because not all christians are like that.however i was only fuelled to say that because i was so pissed off at reading lebchris's comments towards those who were posting that i wanted him/her to have a taste of their on medicine.to get to feel how its like being called a backward person, not respecting human rights etc. and as much as he was wrong about that,i was wrong about what i said as well.my sincere apolgies for those who got offended.
MARY, the mother of JESUS USE TO COVER HER HAIR. ITS A SIGN OF MODESTY. I GET LESS ATTENTION FROM THE WRONG TYPE OF MEN NOW THAT I HAVE BEEN WEARING HIJAB FOR 2 YEARS. WHETHER I LOOK LESS ATTRACTIVE OR THEY THINK I AM PIOUS AND LESS LIKELY TO RESPOND TO THEM, THE RESULT HAS BEEN GOOD AND IT HAS LIBERATED MME IN A SENSE. ALSO PEOPLE KNOW INSTANTLY THAT I AM A MUSLIM AND ITS GOOD BEING CALLED A SISTER BY BOTH BROTHERS AND SISTERS AND KNOWING SOME OTHER MUSLIM WILL HELP ME OR VICE VERSA BECUASE WE ARE OF THE SAME RELIGION IS GOOD AS WELL. ALSO LIVING IN THE WEST WHEN PEOPLE KNOW WE ARE MUSLIMS AND WE ARE UPON THE MANHAJ IT OPENS ROOM TO GIVE NON MUSLIMS DAWAH AS ITS PART OF OUR DUTY. HIJAB IS POSITIVE. BEFORE CLAIMING ITS BACKWARD WHY DONT YOU ASK HOW A MUSLIM WOMAN FEELS ABOUT IT AND WHAT CHANGES IT HAS PROVIDED UPON WEARING IT.
