What About the Web’s Future?

The developments in technology have made a great impact in people’s lifestyle. The internet for instance, with its momentous growth, has become a big part of the people’s daily lives. When you think about it, a lot of people are even becoming dependent on the web – students, businessmen and other sectors of the society. So with this fact, what would be the result if the information they obtain from the web are untrue?

This question is also the concern of the World Wide Web founder, Sir Timothy Berners-Lee. He is concerned about the future of the web because if things continue the way they have been going, the internet may perhaps end up being undemocratic. Based on the interview with BBC, he said blogs are chiefly responsible for proliferating erroneous information or misguided information on the web. Because of this observation, he advocates that bloggers should be more careful in the things they publish. Well, bloggers, any comment?

Berners-Lee is also calling for participation of the people in order to prevent make the web better and not become undemocratic. So this concern has led to the establishment of the Web Science Research Initiative – a group that will study the future of the web particularly in the scientific, technical and social aspects.
