As Ramadan draws to a close, Arab and Islamic countries all over the world are declaring the end of the holy month as most of them will celebrate the feast or “EID” tomorrow, Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Eid, think of it as Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year and Easter all rolled into one!
I hope most people were able to make full use of Ramadan and remember God during the happy as well as the difficult times.
We should all appreciate what we have and the people we’re with, the loved ones we can spend time with, the less fortunate ones we can help, the enemies we can forgive and the friends we can cherish.
Some of us might not be so lucky to spend the next Eid with the ones we love. Make use of every moment.
Happy Eid :)

Hmm I better go out and buy 2 turkey's, some chocolate eggs, and fireworks in that case!
Yes all the above except without as much materialism...it's following suit though. But not to the extent that we forget all the religious values + the ultimate purpose- insha'allah that'll never happen.

here in the western countries i dont see anyone celebrating christmas because of its relegious value.gawd, people who work with me are either atheists, agnostics and God knows what else but they celebrate christmas because theyve been doing it all their lives, plus with all the decorations and stars and presents..seems thats what matters to them nowadays!same goes to ol' halloween,people(non-religious)included celebrate it because its fun fun FUN FUN!you get to dress like witches and dracula and even PLAYBOY BUNNIES..its ABSURD!when it comes to easter its good because you get to hunt and eat chocolate.i guess jesus just got crucified and in rememberance for that people decided to have a feast right after that...ON EGGS!..CHOCOLATE EGGS!.honestly,it seems like christians have forgotten the relegious and historical importance of our relegion(that is,christianity)and turned it into a cultural and surprsingly theatrical thing especially since atheists seem to have turned it into a complete joke by 'celebrating' it as well.i hope more christians like me preach against this.i just came back from my holiday in Syria and im surprised at how muslims on eid day head to pray at their mosques before they break their fasting.they read the quraan nearly all the time on these days and especially, ive noticed, during Ramadan.they collect money on the first day of Eid and distribute it to the poor and in charities ,then, they start feasting.its quite remarkable how the west seems to give an impression of monsterosity of muslims when ive realized they are nothing like that. sometimes i think, they have truly proved they have become closer to God than we have.
Yes im grateful to be Muslim and thank god for gave me everything. our releigion, We don’t celebriate Halloween and we don’t do devilish things like the western think. They think were criminal we don’t have a heart, that is wrong. Like you said yes we get closer to god, we pray a lot, reading quran and have mercy on poor people. First time I read a person said a good things about Islam and notice it. Thank you for saying it.
Adam
Your Christian, oh I thought your Muslim.
Oh yeah I forgot about a Halloween is coming, not thanksgiving.
i hate to admit it ahmed it truly upsets me (not the part about islam but the part about how relegious christian holidays today arent remembered or celebrated "religously" but culturally.)
I'm Christian, and I have to say that I agree with aussiegirl 100% about the commercialization of holidays in the western countries. But, not all Christians are like this. My family abstains from meat and dairy products for 40 days before easter and christmas, so do most of the people at my church, granted it's an Arabic church. My theory is that because many people in the western countries have no real "roots", so they all celabrate their version of christmas and easter (the fake version) to try and fill some sort of void that's missing in their spiritual lives. It's like they don't know any better.
What do you guys think?
And Ahmed, I have great respect for Islam, as do alot of people who are educated about it.
It's my personal beleif that any religion that teaches peace and clean living, with a clean heart and mind is a respectful religion.
I’m glad for you both and I really respect your Christians religion, too. I do have a lots of friends, and they are really nice. We do a lots of things without mention our religions. When they heard on TV and reading in the magazines, they said in Denmark did cartoons about prophets and make fun of islam, my friends are shock and they are really mad. Why do they do that ? Oh no! oh my god that’s bad! It was The most shocking I saw in my eyes which it has turn to lazy eyes I was speechless. My friends really care.
I do love America, they are many kind of people there and also European. Some Americans have sweet hearts and some not is like us in my culture./
I know what you mean about the thing with Denmark and even the new one with the Pope, I mean come on. You have to be smart and understand what offends people. That was careless on their part. I was really upset, and so was my family. It's really not a Christian/Muslim thing--it's being decent and sensitive to other people's beliefs and culture.
I have some Muslim friends at school, and they tell me Happy Easter, and I tell them Eid Mubarak. It's about tolerance and respect.
I'm really glad that this opened some dialogue about the subject.
Li kolli Muslim Fi al a3lam ai3d mabroek wa sana sai3da!!!!

Omg, i wrote a huge comment and it didnt post..Here we go again..
Anyways, i TOTALLLY agree with people celebrating holidays for the wrong reasons!! I try really hard to stray from that tho. My church as services on the weeks before and after Pascha/Easter every single day and my family tries our best to make it every day (my cchurch is kinda far..) And on Christmas Eve theres church really late at night. Their gorgeous ceremonies, i enjoy them alot :D
The thing about Halloween..what we do in our church is we go door-to-door asking for non-parishable foods instead of candy. Then we donate what we get (which, Thank God, is a lotttt) to the needy. when people really learn what halloween was meant for its really a demonic day. But even so, when i was a kid, and still went trick-or-treating (which i stopped at like, 5th grade) Alls i really dressed up as were angels. But really, God judges you on what you know and how you use that knowledge. If you dont know, why should you be punished for it? Thats why its all of our jobs to teach the right ways to other who dont.
Im so with u aussie on the aetheist thing:: Why are they celebrating the most important holidays which let us give thanks for everything God gave up for us when they totally deny that God even exists?! Its the most hypocriticle thing someone can do, really.. But in Pashca/Easter, it really DOES have everything to do with eggs. Just, not chocolate ones ;)
Wow, it suprised me so much when i heard (in my Social studies class) that they made fun of islam. I mean, what was the point really? its soo.... un-manner like.(i know, its not a word but i cant think of the right term at the moment) people could at least respect one another for everything they are. People come to america for things that are stated in the 1st Amandment LIKE freedom of religion. No one should be penalized by what they practice. Anyways, yea, i think i re-stated everything i said in the last un-posted comment.
Much luff

PS. L.N.H. my church is the same way~
PSS. yup ahmed im Christian. Sorry if i made you think otherwise somehow :)
Adam,
You must be Orthodox Christian right? I'm SOYO (OUr church youth group) and that's what we do on Halloween, is collect food items to donate to the poor.
*I'm in SOYO, oops
Wtf...Dont tell me your church name is St. George..because ill freak out halla...im in teen soyo. Omg ARE WE GOING TO THE SAME CHURCH?!
St. George Phoenix?
If so, wow, what a coincidence!
Yes! wats ur name (first only for safeness)
My name's Linda. I must tell you though, I haven't gone to church in a while, it's really far from my house. I'm 16 by the way. You?
Linda, bint adel?
Oh im Christina btw, 13.
Nope, bint Nick. My last name is the same as Amanda H., except that we are not related. You probobly don't remember me, but your name sounds familiar. Do you have older sisters?
I used to come to church with my aunt Theresa S.
i know what last name your talking about lol :D...Um, no i dont have sisters, only 2 older bros... Have you ever gone to a recent SOYO meeting?..Linda H...freakkin A if i dont figure out who u r its gonna drive me insane for the next week and a half lol~ do u have any siblings i might know??

I'm the oldest so no, I haven't gone to any recent SOYO meetings, I was super active a couple of years ago. If you ask Amanda S., Marina, Samantha S., or Miriam, they'll tell you who I am, though I don't think they have any pictures.
Haha, i was thinking about doing that, i should call marina right now lol (when i cant figure something out im addicted to it until i do :) ) BTW, Marina and Jo and all them are my cousins~ Maybe Katrina will have a pic from some thing you guys did in SOYO..
See if anyone has photo's from the last St. George festival(Not the one this last spring, but the one before that, with Zubeida, Rachel, and Amanda H., ect...)
