During Ramadan, should people have to work just as they would on any other usual day?
“I’m Fasting” is the best excuse anyone can use to get out of doing a chore and also to get away with bad behavior. It’s true that during the early days of Islam, the people used to work regularly and participate even in battles. Fasting didn’t stop them. So what’s changed? Nowadays in most Islamic countries, work hours are cut by one or two and as far as I have heard, in Saudi Arabia, the whole month is a holiday…people from Saudi, please correct me if I’m wrong.
Productivity is reduced even for those who do still go to work.
But hey, don’t get me wrong…I’m certainly not complaining… I do enjoy going home two hours earlier. It’s great! But the only problem is when I really need to get some things done, such as, going to the bank, getting my car fixed, or paying a bill. It’s pretty difficult to get anything done, so whose fault is this?
What do you think?
Is it right to cut work times during Ramadan or should we say that “work can wait” and that this is a time for praying and spirituality?
What are the working hours during Ramadan where you live?

I’m from Saudi and I work from 10 am to 4 pm ... 6 days a week ... Get your facts straight man.
Why not work. We have energy enough to do so. There is no excuse but we are a little set back by fasting so that is why some or probably most people have differen tschedules for Ramadan....;)
i beleive that since its Ramadan people get more energetic..coz they know that ALLAH would double el 'ajir'...and that's the goal of life!
First of all the month of Ramdan is the month for you to see how the poor live and appericate what youi have. i don't think the poor get hours cut because they can't find food to eat.... just wanted to share my opinion with u!!!
Ramadan Kareem Fist of all..
I am a jordanian.. studying in lebanon.. We really dont feel anything here in lebanon.. u can eat.. everyone is working.. studying.. and we are living normaly.. We really cant tell its Ramdan over here.. everywhere.. not only shar2iyeh
I disagree with countries that make use of this holy month and take it as a holiday.. i dont think putting people in jail until the end of the month is the right way to stop people from eating in streets..!!! I mean come onn.. If someone is really fasting.. no matter what happens they should control themselves a bit.. someone eating infront of you makes you a stronger person..!!
Whats the point when sommeone sleeeps most of the time.. and every single thing like restaurants are completty closed before Iftar.. Whats the point..?! I cant get it..!!
I also hate it.. when X for example is fasting.. and i offer him somthing by mistake.. X would say... "NO NO NO MAN... I AM FAASTING!!!" Instead of just saying.. " Thanks.. maybe later.."
If your fasting.. THAT doesn't mean everyone has to FAST..!! and it doesn't mean everyone should know about..!!
ANyways.. Happy Ramadan! :)

Ramadan Karem
I like waleg blogs everyone express their opnion.
regarding Zeid's cooment i would agree that people should continue working and that resturants should continuee operating, in lebanon, but not in other contries, such as Saudi where 98% of the people are muslims who fast, and pray and you would know that if you went there.
And when you say u dont feel like its ramadan i feel sorry for you. This is a holly month and a celebration for muslims, and we ARE supposed to selebrate it. Like other religions celebrate their, and their is NO shame in that.
I Thank Everyone for their opnion and stay open minded :)
boudy
I live in Belgium, although it is not a muslim country we feel the holy month Ramadan, when people ask me if I want to eat something,I I refuse and thank them for asking, people sometimes refuse to eat next to me, I say them that they can eat whatever they want, it does not bother me! We do not change or customs, we feel taht Allah is helping us, if you truely believe in Allah, Ramadan will be easy and joyfull. I go everyday to school, I even run during the lessons PE (physical education) and stop school at 16.15! The best thing during ramadan is that people should not see that you are fasting!
Dear Maha,
Web Blogging is about being able to express freely and without hesitation. I agree that some of the Ramadan articles i posted were negative, but they are still my opinion and i didn't make anything up. We are used to not expressing our negative aspects and pretending they don't exsist. But we can't do that forever. The sooner we realize our falts and problems, the sooner we can solve them.
And Boudy summed up the whole subject by saying we should keep an open mind. I'm sorry if i offended you maha, it was not mine nor waleg's intention. I hope you understand.
Ramadan Karem,
Hello everyone, i am Australian and i was wondering if people of Islam prey during the hours of a work day? I am currently doing an assignment for univeristy and it is regarding cultural diversity. I have friends from Jordan and a place called Turkmenistan, but they are on holidays at the moment and i cannot get in touch with either of them. I would really appreciate any input.
Do muslims prey during the hours of a work day?
Thank you
Hello Drew,
Muslims should pray during the hours of work however there are some exceptions were some Muslims can't perform their daily prayers during work because of the nature of their work, so they have to compensate for that prayers at a later time.
