I don’t get it. All older people and senior citizens go on and on about how much “nicer” Ramadan was during their time…
What is it about the older days that make them so special?
As far as I can remember, Ramadan actually was nicer 15 years ago. Every Ramadan as the years go by (and I get older) I tend to feel that something is missing. I can’t put my finger on it nor can I make a list…but indeed, it’s not the same. I don’t know whether it’s me or everyone else that’s different.
Most people my parents age would say that Ramadan is less “family oriented as it used to be” and it seems to be the time where Arabic TV series and game shows dominate.

But what’s wrong with that??

One thing is for sure, the Ramadan spirit is not what it used to be, that I can say!
But if you were in a position to make Ramadan better… what would you do?

i completley agree with you are sayin in this article!! ramadan seems not to have that magical spirit anymore? i dont know why..i reckon its because we are loosing the relgion...not enough religious programmes on in ramadan..music is still being played..singers still sing..and there is no more fawazeer that brought family together..these days teenagers will go out after iftar and hang with their mates in bars and stuff..i really dont get it!! ramadan has lost its touch..but we can bring it back..in our eman and hearts!

In the olden days, there was no such thing as programs that distract them from al 3ibada. Now, people look forward to Ramadan for that reason and nothing else. It was also very spiritual before and you would really feel like it is a holy month that everyone respects..... ;)

Shows, and serieses, are being aired after (iftar), there are some channels like orbit or (al yawm) who airs serieses while fasting and i dont think its a very bad thing, coz tv makes us forget our hungriness when we're fasting...so many things changed ramadan, i will tell u an example, i live in mouseitbeh, beirute...which is near a very important shopping street marelias......this street was different from a couple of years, it used to be more special, like they made traveling markets of sweets in the streets and more restaraunts were opened and there were more hanged fliers (very big fliers) dor ramadan, i dont know, it was all different, but thats life, it changes a lot...

in westren countries muslim families tend to make a bigger deal of Ramadan in order to give their children a strong sense of religion. they go to the mosque everyday and have iftar parties and so on.
in my experience, the elderly think everything was better in their day.

soooo truue omg seriously i feel that but i thought i was just imagining it its like everytime a year passes i dont feel the atmosphere of ramadan.......tv programs have nothing to do with it..i dont think so...there;s just something else thats missing..n every year some thing else is lost...theres just not that energy that there used to be
