Beggars

We all see beggars on the streets, on subway corners, and especially traffic lights. But Ramadan sees a sharp rise in beggars and their activities.
Of course, these people would like to exploit this holy month as much as possible and play on the high level of religious emotions of people during this special time.

But hey, don’t get me wrong, not all beggars are bad guys. On the contrary, there are a lot of misfortunate people out there who need all the support and help they can get. It’s just such a shame that I can’t distinguish anymore between who deserves my change and who doesn’t. I feel so guilty for not helping an old lady in the street, but at the same time, it’s not my responsibility to save every single beggar, homeless and drifter out there. So let me see that Ramadan spirit of yours and give me suggestions on how to help the poor and the needy.

Oh, and if anyone can give me some suggestion on how to stop feeling guilty about the ones we don’t help.

Well, in this month of generousity and kindness, it would be greedy not to give a beggar some money although not every one you see! Why not pay a good amount to a mosque or any institution aimed at helping the needy. You won't feel guilt because you are telling someone to get a job. If you feel that guilty, why not take him or her somewhere that can help them...... ;)

Well... hmm

some beggars really take the advantage of ramadan, and think that others will give em more money cuz it's a "holy" month... anyhow, i would give more money and to more ppl...

One way NOT to feel guilty is by giving them errands and chores to do -- offer them a job. If they refuse, it's their choice.

To be honest, there really shudnt be such a thing as beggars if people followed islam, because in Islam one should not beg of any other human but Allah. theres no question of a doubt, when someone comes to being real needy, but usually u can see it in ones eyes. I remember when i was in egypt, i saw an olddddddd man shoe shining, now to me..i know he is working hard at that age to gain a little money, and to me that is what u call REAL CHARITY.
