Happy Ramadan everybody!
Yes, all the Islamic countries are celebrating the first day of Ramadan today. As a run-up to this holy month, people have been raiding the supermarkets and shops like it was the end of the world or something!
I thought this month was supposed to be a month of “fasting?” as opposed to “spending.”
You’ve undoubtedly seen how much people waste money during Ramadan…weather it was on unnecessary food or on expensive nights out. It’s actually becoming categorized as big business for shop-owners and supermarkets, not to mention coffee shops.

Hey, don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a nice “Argeela” and coffee just as much as the next guy, but I can’t help feeling that Ramadan has become a business month rather than a month of worship. For example, a night out in Amman after Iftar in a decent coffee shop could cost you about $15 as a minimum charge. You can get an Argeela and tea with that. And as the month passes by, that minimum charge rises to $20!!
It is obvious to see that people are spending more during this month and worshiping less!
I feel Arabic societies are missing the point…what do you think?

Yes, its true people are spending much more mony in Ramadan. You can see them run in to shops and at the buther's there is always a queue. Actually we should eat and live like we always do and not change our customs during Ramadan!

i think that people knows that they r spending money much more in Ramadan, and they do enjoy this, they want to do anything in order to feel happy in ramadan "exactly as the marriage wedding celebrating people could cost thounds and thounsands in only one day to feel happy",and i think let every1 do whatever he wants,if i go out after fitar and spend a lot of money i think i am happy with that coz this is not a habit its only in this month beside for sure do my religious duty and finishing them..so plz let every1 enjoy ramadan in the way he wants and HAPPY RAMADAN:)

Exactly although we may seem very hypocritical saying we are not supposed to do certain stuff and doing them. Ramadan has become all about the newest programs and selling the greatest number of products. You're right , we are missing the point although we know what it is...

Well-said...I agree with you.
Unfortunately this is the truth about our Arabic societies!!
