Much has been made of what would form a Hezbollah victory in this current war but there are other issues to be taken into consideration and whats been written by Thomas Friedman in his column in The New York Times recently makes more sense than any other political analysis... Here is an excerpt:

1000 dead, 3200 injured and 1 million displaced person and numbers are still on the rise. Still these stupid Arabs and their worthy representative Nasrallah are claiming a "victory".
And what is Arab honor after all? What do Mauritanians and Yemenis for instance had to do with Palestine anyway to start with? Have most of these silly people ever set foot for Lebanon?
Why Lebanon does have to pay the price for Iran's war and redeem the "Arab Honor" whatever that means.
For your information, there are 10.000 Iranian highly trained soldiers now fighting in Lebanon.
Wow, they destroyed Israeli war machines and punctured some homes here and there in Israel. Nice achievements.
But most the vital bridges of my country are destroyed, my roads are not practicable, my whole people is under siege, we are running out fuel... I am suffering that much and still I am from the christian regions that were spared the carnage. What would the people who lost their homes and loved ones say? Here our tribute for the "Arab Honor"?

i am not sure that war was against hezbollah, it seems israel is just killin everyone and destroying everything as much as they can. but if u look at it from the side of those ignorants who believe israel was fightin hezbollah then yes hezbollah did WIN, i mean it took a 5th strongest army in the world to move up just 11km in 32 days fightin against few thousands of hezbollah fighters and everyday jew soldiers are gettin killed there. Why should not the Kuwaitis be grateful to the Americans?. Okay we are all aware that America has its policies and put simply cares only about the oil, but at least it helped Kuwait when the arabs as usual could do nothing but protest when women, children and men were butchered.
Nasrallah is not going to break traditions that Arab Leaders have been adopting since 1948, a hollow victory is all they need. An Arab Leader never disappoints and goes against the tide, they are all the same.

Israeli's failure to defeat Hezbollah is the victory for that group. Israel launched war with two clear aims: To destroy Hezbollah once and for all, ie to dismantle the terror organisation, to make sure it is fully disarmed. And second, to secure the release of its 2 kidnapped soldiers. Israel had vowed to fight until its kidnapped troops were home. Well, they are still not home. And by the looks of it boths of these military objectives are not achieved. Israel has failed. Hezbollah had still the capacity to fire missiles into Israeli cities. Israel has lost its battle with Hezbollah. It will still have to negotiate a prisoner release deal to win back its captured a soldiers, just as Hezbollah leader said on day 1. Hezbollah did not have to win this war. Their survival was victory. They have not only survived, they have come out stronger and more popular across the Arab world. They will soon be celebrating across Lebanon. They will celebrate their triump and their enemy's humiliation.
