Man Barely Conscious for 19 Years Recovers

Terry Wallis

Everyone is amazed at how Terry Wallis, now 42 years old, regained speech and movement after a terrible accident damaged the nerve connections in his brain, causing him to be briefly in a coma and for the next 19 years, under a state of “minimal consciousness.” It was in 2003 when he began to utter words, now he can already move and communicate with his family.

Wallis’ brain seemed to have rewired itself through those long and traumatic years of being scarcely conscious. Doctors explain that new nerve connections spontaneously grew in the less damaged area of his brain, particularly in the area that controls his movement and speech. His is a very rare case, in fact, it’s “one in 300 million,” specialists say—enough to call it a “medical miracle.”

Terry Wallis’ case surely brings hope to those who are in the same health condition; however, doctors note that those in permanent vegetative condition may not be as fortunate as Terry is. The latter’s chances are the same as one’s chances in winning a lottery.

WALEG..i want to write about how angry i am at your website..i was so happy to find a decent website and told my friends and cousins about (who are about 12 years old..) but upset and really dissapointed in the rude photo u display on your website of two women kissing. This is atrocious and i am so angry. I am making a formal complain. I hope this be dealt with seriously because websites for arabs and for children should not have such images..u may say dont come on here then..but i beleive its my right to encourage important issues and stop anything distructive to children. This is indecent..i challenge u to put this post on so others can read..very very saddened!

It's great and it's a kind of reward for all his family and friends who had hope in God till the end. This opens the issue of mercy killing which has been discussed all around the world for many years and no final word is given on this issue.

    Dear Nane
Your comment really annoyed me! If You don't care you can simply ignore the whole issue but insulting an ill man for no reason at all is really bad and unaccaptable Please reconsider other's feelings next time you write.
