Did you know that there are around 17 million refugees around the world?
UNHCR, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, leads & co-ordinates international action for the world-wide protection of refugees and the resolution of refugee problems.
Their main goals are to protect refugees and to seek ways to help them restart their lives.
The United Nations General Assembly established 20 June as World Refugee Day in 2001, & since then the world has been celebrating this day, a day to remember the world's refugees & their strong spirit & courage.
And on this occasion watch this very tounching video of UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie.
Yes it is very easy to believe that such a huge number exists. Unfortunately for them that even in Developed countries such as Australia they are not treated humanly. They are locked in detention centres for years and years until their applications are processed. Mental problems arise which lead them to hunger strikes and even trying to harm themselves.
Then you think they are better off than those refugees in refugee camps suffering from lack of food and other horrific problems.
Also I have to say good luck to the innocent Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, and the Sudanese refugees too.
Unfortunately it will always an ongoing problem, and there does not seem to be a solution in sight.
For the thousands of people forced to flee their homes each year, escaping with their lives and a few belongings is often just the start of a long struggle. Once they have found safety from persecution or war, they still face enormous challenges just trying to obtain things most of us take for granted -- schooling, a job, decent housing or health care. The secretary Gneral has started his word message on world refugee day on 20 June 06
