Last Friday, two conjoined twin girls have been successfully separated after they live together for 5 months upon their birth fused together, face-to-face and joined at the diaphragm, pancreas and liver, and shared a common bile duct and part of an intestine. Their hearts had to be re-positioned and part of their intestines, which they shared, had to be separated in addition to their livers which were also fused together...
The two girls Abbigail and Isabelle Carlsen are now sleeping in separate beds with a 90% - 95% chance of survival after a complicated series of different operation that took more than 12 hours of surgery at Mayo Clinic, USA, by a team of 30 surgeons and health professionals.
The conjoined twins were born on Nov. 29 to the Fargo, North Dakota couple.
