Arab Students Abroad

In the past few days, we were really busy and we couldn’t publish new articles on a daily manner as we usually do… and today, checking first emails and recently posted comments, we were really shocked by a comment posted by an Arab student in Canada, specifically in Quebec studying in the University of Laval. The language this student used is an extremely low & obscene language which was directed to us, & was full of swears in Arabic language.

I was once a student who lived outside my country of origin and I was totally comfortable with myself and I spent almost 8 years away from home, during which I never used any such low language towards anybody. However I did meet a number of students who have also traveled away from their countries for the purpose of studying, some of these students were full of rage and anger… they had some trouble like making new friends, passing their exams successfully, etc. Unfortunately, many of them went back home full of disappointment and increased rage and anger after they failed to achieve their goals.

I truly think that universities abroad like in the US and Canada for example, should consider a program that takes care of students coming from the Arab world, and in particular the ones suffering from issues like the mentioned above. Being raised in a different culture or family that might not be tight together or an unhappy childhood could be a reason of such a matter. Only a program strong enough can deal with such issues and should be considered as an obligation to all new students coming from the Arab World, and others from all over the world.

My advice to you if you encounter such students that can only express themselves through anger using low language for example, is not to reply to them; ignoring them will do the job.

    waleg,

i am glad u posted this topic, i was horrified and angry when i seen the comment that individual posted. i couldnt belive the words actually came from someone arab. i still dont understand what was his/her purpose for all that. wallah, most of us here are students and away from home with no family. and for that reason i appreciate this site. it makes me feel closer to home,i love knowing that the site is based on arabs of all kinds and religions. even tho some of us on here take it a lil too serious and post ignorant comments and such. i am sure everyone here appreciate this website like i do, keep up the good work waleg. thanks to you, your assistants, and to all the guest writers for participating and keeping us uptodate with info.

i agree with mya, that we all go to different countires to study and learn new things that we may not have learned in our countires. Thus, by going back to our countries we can share our experiences and make a difference. Like me, i use to live in a small town in lebanon.Sure, i used to go to school and had a lot of friends but i didn't see what was happening around me or around the world. I used to go out with my friends and watch cartoons. If i stayed their i would probably dropped out of and got married. However, my mom and me came to the US, i started school and made good friends, and i opened my mind to new ideas and saw a lot of difference in the way i use to be and what i am know. I study hard and graduated from high school and know iam in my second year of college. After all that i see around the arab world, i feel i would like to make a difference. But my country well always be in my heart and the memoires i will never forget. So people who study in different countries should take this appourtunity to excel and work hard to provide and make a difference for your own country. I think that the perosn that wrote what he wrote really didn't have that apportunity and his minded didn't open up to new ideas because he didn't feel confortable and couldn't that the people beside him may have even wanted firendship.

I am an arab canadian from an Iraqi origin, and i have met arab nationals studying in canada, they seem to be doing pretty good, I know one particular jordanian girl, and i can tell you that she is more integreated in the canadian society than many other canadian arabs (most of the time hang out on their own, not alot of mixed with canadians).

Also, in my university, we have creational programs for many international students , and helps many people to socialize with others.

I do not think that living abroad is such a scary thing that will make people behave impolitely, i think it is their personality and that their parents did NOT know how to raise them well, probably only feed them food and no akhla8.

if you wana prove urself, prove it. if not, then i'm sorry, you wont go anywhere in life.

Besides, getting a degree from abroad , does not guarantee success, it is probably higher step however, you can descend if you do not have the right attitude, and hardwork......

honestly, people think that people canada, and US and other western countries live in na3eem and total happiness.......NO WAY, we try to earn it......people accuse canada of being of socialist orientation no way.......everything here is money, and money and just money.......and the only thing you can do is work hard and hard and harder......

nothing is perfect, but we only try to make things better.. :)

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH MYA. WALEG AND GUEST WRITERS ARE PROVIDING US WITH THE BEST INFORMATION OF ALL SORTS, AND GIVE US THE CHANCE TO EXPRESS OUR OPINIONS ON THOSE ARTICLES FREE OF CHARGE. WE SHOULD NOT MISUSE THOSE CHANCES. WHAT THAT USER SAID IN HIS COMMENTS UNDER THE LAST AMERICAN IDOL ARTICLE WAS TOTALLY RIDICULOUS AND SICKENING, AND I'M HAPPY IT HAS BEEN ERASED. OBVIOUSLY, THE USER IS NOT HAPPY AND IS PROBABLY TROUBLED, AS WALEG SAYS. THANKS TO WALEG AND ALL THE GUEST WRITERS FOR PROVIDING US WITH EVERYTHING WE WANT TO KNOW, AND FOR BEING FAIR TO EVERYONE.

dear waleg me as well myself iam curently a student in canada well guess what to be honest i really don't wanna mix up with the new arabs too much in here just cause i've been here so long for 9 yeras and all the new upcoming arabic student from abroad looks for me more and more with a wierd attitude i don't know is it them or is it me who has changed but when i first came i had hard time as well to get used to everything but you know what the arabs the one usually that doesn't get used to life style else where are the one mostly coming from small country and most of the time from the gulf country but i really seen great relations mostly bettween the north africain in canada with the french canadian i think it's also mosly because of the language since most of the maghreb speaks french already and used to the french culture mostly tunisian and morcains and then french speaking lebanses they 're easily integrated in the society here very quick compare to the other arabs but generaly i think that speaking most of the arabs from whar i saw will end up doing ok ... except the one that are extremly close minded and these kind of people do exist in any ethnicity of course not in arabs only so good luck to all of them but the best of we can if wou have the chance to be there for so long to teach young arabs how to get adapted to that country or culure without loosing theirowns of course that the best thing we can do all of us the arabs born and raised or the ones that they have been so long elsewhere outside of the arabic world cause after all they do presnet us in anyway as long as they're arabs . and not to turn the back on back and act like if we're not one of them or not arabs cause that's the biggest mistake that might be done .

thanks wlarg for this topic ... it's reallt important .

    To "leb_canadian"
What happened was that a person wrote a very ignorant and stupid comment full of arabic swearing. He/she was swearing at Waleg because that person was disgusted of Waleg's topics. He said this under the American Idol article, that was posted recently.
