With our obsession of Reality television on overdrive, it is looking more increasingly like 'reality television' is not just a phase...but is here to stay and continue in dominating the television schedule, as well as gossip inches in magazines, newspapers and masses of web pages for years to come. In fact it is almost inevitable now to dedicate considerable thinking time to the cage like concept and to imagine being the guinea pig in the experiment or to wonder what it would be like as the controller running the show
The format which aims to make quick cash by taking advantage of phone or text votes has become a new phenomenon in the 'takeaway' era. And having fifteen minutes of fame is higher on the priority list of an attention craving generation then having a life of stability or 'normality'...even if the individuals talent is somewhat lacking. But we are all convinced that as a 'unique' people we are likeable and in turn become blind to the judgmental nature of viewers and the possibility that we are all dislikeable depending on 'how' the controllers represent us under the microscope of prying eyes and alert ears. Most contestants who are presumably naive to the editing skills of a big crew end up receiving more criticisms and animosity then the expected waving and queuing hoards of fans.
As neighbors become less sociable, more illusive and regularly confined to the four walls of their home, we are seeking new ways to vent our gossiping tendencies and reality television has potentially become the way in which many people create common interests.
If you could be the controller of a televised reality show and you are contemplating the idea of using celebrity contestants in order to concentrate on a format whereby relationships are the main focus and not the end result or the winner, which celebrities would you select and why? Why do you think the audience would be intrigued by the relationships between your chosen celebrities? How would you try to create more addictive moments...for instance would u try to create different atmospheres e.g. Romantic, or would you make challenges to humiliate the guinea pigs? You decide!
