ARLA Foods, Europe’s second-largest dairy company which manufactures Lurpak butter, Puck cheddar, and Three Cows fetta cheese, has been losing over US$2.4 million a day in sales in the Middle East and Gulf region, thats why the company has called a halt to operations and closed the dairy. Now, its unclear whether any of its 800 employees will lose their jobs!
Arla is among a number of Danish firms that have put pressure on their government to secure an end to the crisis of the Danish cartoons...

sorry 2 say it... but they deserve it!!!!
danish man,
1. r we supposed 2 believe ur danish??
2. OUR fault.. ur country's the one who published the cartoons!!:S u should go blame them loool!!:S
(P.S.. of course by "your country" i mean Denmark;) )
Thats very shameful, its also shameful how Muslims are being portrayed now.
I am sorry but i do not agree with the boycott and i think it's a big waste of time and it makes people who have nth to do with this crisis lose their jobs.
What did an employer in a Danish company ever do to u? its not hurting the newspaper that published the cartoons its hurting others that haven't done anything to do with this problem.
I dont think Muslims will earn respect nor a proper apology this way.
Dandooneh,
There's nothing we can do to the danish employees:s
If we dont boycott the products, more magazines will publish more INSULTING cartoons!! and they'll know we wont stop them:s!!!!! Of hcourse MUSLIMS will earn respect this way cuz pple will c that we respect our beloved religion!!! and if they dont apologize.. NO GOOD cn come;ill tell u that 4 nothing! Denmark has 2 suffer the consequences for their actions!!!!
to MYOB,
they aren't danish employees, they are arabic employees and most of the 800 employees that might lost their job are in Saudi Arabia :((((
Well im rlly sorry for them.. but GOD wont leave them like this!! insha2allah
IT IS SAD that those employees loosing their jobs and they are innocent in this matter who knows?? but one thing is for sure the message is getting a cross but as a muslim i dont want it to go across that we are violent and while looking for understanding and respect for ourselfs and ISLAM we dont want to potray again that it is violent and we act outside of Islam"s teachings and being seem to be angry mob becouse it allways gives those who did not respect us in the first place to turn it arround and say "well see we were justified" and turn this around again by making us look bad the second time and olso us loosing the real point of al this protest my brothers and sisters pls. SO lets stay within the TEACHINGS and REAL MEANING of ISLAM on this and not give them an exuse to turn this one around again pls.We all should act as devoted Muslims and within the teachings of ISLAM for them to see and learn once for all what really ISLAM stands for and why we love our Prophet and ALLAH and our beliefs and religion soooo muchhh.
the muslims, are mad, not all of them, there are some normal.... to go crazy over 12 cartons.... no brain.. no pain...
hey i am a muslim but i think muslim people are exagerating with their acts, i mean does the meaningless stupid cartoons drawed by ignorant people are worth all this big fuss? i dont think so.because now we muslims are beign portrayed as violent and fool people.the truth is i live in a foreing country and the thing that arab dont understand is that occidental people have the freedom of speech and do not understand how we take religion at heart so let them be stupid and lets move on with this story...look at what horrible things it lead to in lebanon i mean do all the christians have to suffer bcuz of 1 person? and think about it its not bcuz one Danish person did this that we should put the blame on all danish people, and even less we cant boycott these companies who make people live!!!also the newspaper that did those drawings appologied toward muslim i dont think the government should also...
think about it twice..
To Dandoonah,
Are you sorry for them. come on 80% of Danish people requested their govenment not to apologize for muslims. They agreed on insulting & humiliating muslims. They don't have to love us, we are requesting them only to respect us. They want to insult our prophet and show no respect for us and they want us to eat their dairy products. I won't do it, at least I have a dignity not to bow for people who humiliate me. They deserve what happened to them. I just want to ask them whould they feel happy if we portray Jesus Christ in a shameful picture (nude) or other horific picture and say this is freedom of speech. I don't think so, they may have freedom in everything but I don't think they would be happy to see Jesus Christ in such picture. As muslims we will never depict such picture to Jesus Christ, we are not as rude as they are. This is not freedom, it is conflict of faiths, we all should learn to respect eachother for better world. By the way I don't agree what happened the other day in Beirut. It is completely wrong to attack people which has nothing to do with this.
Thanks Dalia you just said what i wanted to say. Also I wish I can something more effective than just the boycott to teach those pigs a lesson they will never forget. but hey this is better than nothing and it is all for the sake of Mohammed PBUH.
Hey I am a Danish guy. I think that it was stupid to publish the drawings. Of cause we have freedom of speech in Denmark, but there is no reasons to offend others. I will like to comment on Dalia's post, because it includes some misunderstandings. Fist of all the Danish government cant apologize for something a private newspaper dose. Instead it can emphasize that offending actions is not Danish politics. See this quotation from the Danish prime minister:
'I want to emphasize that the Danish government condemns any expression, action or indication that attempts to demonize groups of people on the basis of their religion or ethnic background. It is the sort of thing that does not belong in a society that is based on respect for the individual human being,'
What more do you want from the Danish government?
Dalia asks how we will react on in a shameful portrays of Jesus Christ. It is a part of the Danish culture to make cartoons of everything’s (The Queen, the prime mister, the police and Jesus), so I don’t think shameful portrays of Jesus Christ will make any headlines. I may not like it, but why shout I decide what other people publish? I can just stop buying the newspaper if I don’t like it.
Is important to emphasize that most Danes don’t what to offend Muslims, we want to respect all religions.
Samuel
Thanks Samuel and yes those are Arabs that have lost their work not Danish people. That's so sad how Muslims are affecting Arabs only the Danish people wont be affect MIDDLE EASTERN EXPORTS ARE ONLY 2 % of its total!please understand that this boycott can go on for months and no good will come out of it.
This shouldnt be in a big deal, anyway a lot of people made fun of Jesus Christ before in cartoons or anything but no one made a headline out of it,i think the way Muslims are reacting is wrong.
But ofcourse this is your decision, but consider other parties like people with diabetes in Jordan alone its liek 25% and Kuwait its 10% ,these people use a Danish product which is the best medicine, why should they suffer for this?Think before you act please people.
Jesus peace be upon him has already been depicted in the nude...look at the many renaissance paintings for instance; http://www.artprints.com/browsebysubject.asp?id=91&catid=21&subcatid=259. In fact there was a programme on the bbc trying to supposedly calculate or guess the facial features of Jesus (pbuh). There are also films such as 'the life of Brian', 'Passion of the Christ' and theatre production 'Jerry Springer, the opera' depicting Jesus & the angel Gabriel (pbut) as well as God. Adam and Eve also (pbut) are typically portrayed in the nude in a garden somewhere holding red apples and leaves...it's a popular image (Example: http://www.artprints.com/apprintdetail-asp/103360/Unknown%2DAdam%5FUnd%5FEva.htm). So it's something of a routine in the West, the difference this time is the message behind the cartoon. The message of the prophet Mohammed (pbuh) with a bomb on his head does not come anywhere near the so-called satire that was depicted in other forms of Blasphemy. The fact of the matter is Muslims don't want this blasphemy to become a something of a familiarity. Many peaceful demonstrations were carried out for Iraq and did they succeed? peaceful protests don't boast of anything except 'freedom of speech'...and speech in vain...it does not work, it's just like an opportunity to have a get together with others who have an agreement with u, however it's something which never works so i think the phrase 'freedom of speech' should not be something celebrated 2 the extent that it is, as clearly it's not effective & not efficient. If i were to be racially abusive (and those caricatures come close to racism as we as muslims believe that we are a race and not a religion nor a nation) then i'm certain that i would not be supported in the name of freedom. Not everything needs to be made into a joke, especially that which you don't understand. And particularly when u target the most sensitive thing within an endless spectrum of options to satire. We've already seen Osama bin laden caricatured with wives...and there was no reaction as no one cared. But this one is done with intent to provoke and i believe personally that it's the work of the intelligence (note: the cartoons were first published in September), it is done to remind people of 9/11. The context of the images are foolish and they have unsubtle meanings which can only be pardoned in a cartoon because of the available excuse 'it's just a cartoon', and no one is more aware of this then the media...it's their job and they are not blind to these subtle aggravations and manipulations. And to say that it is not against the law is ignorant...There should be awareness of Islamic law, if European law wasn't broken then Islamic law certainly was and there are consequences in that. European law has always changed...the classification of drugs is not even a fixed law so how are we supposed to respect something so fickle and weak. The Islamic law has always remained solid and is one that can never be changed. Arabs don't work by manipulation and sleaze, they react strongly by being too expressive and probably go over the top too, but the boycott was right not simply to punish firms...but to send a wave of strong messages that we do not except this and we won't bow down should it occur again and i believe it won't, so the ultimate function has been to put a bold full stop when it concerns Prophet Mohammed peace be upon him (Christians have done thousands of protests against blasphemy with absolutely no result). I think this is a good show of unity, it's proved that if we work together we can achieve something positive and we won't suffer by losing certain products...i for one am a Kinder Bueno addict and every time i walk by the shelf with the Bueno chocolates i have to look long and hard before walking away...I've resisted so far thank god. Attacking a building (syria/ lebanon..) it is not as extreme as making war and killing millions (Iraq, Afghan, Pal...). However attacking the Church in Beirut was plain stupid as well as some of the messages written on placards held in protests in the West and incentive to dress in particularly noticeable ways, such as the moron who dressed as a suicide bomber in the UK. Anyway he has apologized publicly and that's what the European press should do. There's a cool saying in Arabic which 3amr khaled mentioned (i dunno if anyone heard his reply 2 the recent events)...u abuse me in a busy street and apologize in an empty alley...it sums up the many attitudes that we've seen recently become accustomed 2.
Hey Sam
What! The work of the intelligence? What are you taking about; didn’t I tell you that we have a free press? I have never heard that conspiracy theory before.
The reasons to publish the cartoons was to highlight the difficulty experienced by Danish writer in finding artists to illustrate his children's book about Muhammad, because of fear of violent attacks by extremist Muslims. A couple of years ago a university professor researching in Islam was attacked, because he was reading from the Koran in his lessons.
To inform you there are several blasphemous paintings of Jesus. Fore example Jesus naked with an erected penis. Several of them are made only to provoke Christians.
You say that the Islamic law is broken, dose it means that every body in the world needs to live under the laws of Islam?
As mentioned I agree that the cartoons are stupid. Every things can be misused also the freedom of speech. But that doesn’t mean that “freedom of speech” is bad, it’s fundamental in a democracy. In Denmark we have a blasphemous paragraph, so if some one feel that they are personally offended they can go to court.
Samuel
if u think about it this boycotting has its advantages and disadvantages i feel sorry for the ppl losing their jobs and if they were arabs or muslim allah is gonna be with them and wont leave them alone.........but this just shows how much us muslims care for our religion and are serious about it. Publishing cartoons of the prophet (pbuh) isnt anything small,Its known that ur not supposed to even a draw or imagine or watever a figure of wat the prophet (pbuh) may look like its 7aram, imagine publishing offending ones like some one praying and theres a dog behind?????? u expect muslims to shut up about that? personally i think the danish ppl deserve more then this they need to be punished. They are already losing alot of money because we stopped using their products and i think thats serving them right.
What should I be punished for? That a newspaper in my country makes some stupid cartoons?
Should all Iranians be punished because some of them burned Danish flags?
A Danish guy
