Jad's voice sucks, but his music is selling real well, especially in Egypt, where we saw Jad as the guest of honor in prestigious events such as Miss Egypt!
Ironically the real promoter of Jad and his products is Melody Channel run by 100% Egyptians. So I guess if what he does is really rejected he would have been shunned from there.
And what is "Arab" culture anyway?
No two countries of the countries calling themselves Arab have the same social traditions or costums. For instance in Saudi Arabia women are not even allowed to drive, while women in Egypt frequent mixed social clubs; Morocco and Tunisia lifestyle is highly emancipated while in Sudan girls get their clitoris off etc.
Lebanon is a NORMAL country where freedom of speech is sacred and where kissing isn't considered a shame. You see people doing that and it is normal. I was wondering why we waited all that time to show it on TV.
At best what you call "Arabic" culture is Islamic customs, because anyway Arabism is the secular nomenclature of Islam and it is small wonder, in a country under strong Christian impact such as Lebanon, to see behavior deemed unacceptable by Muslims, while it is normally accepted in Christian countries.
Jad's singing is truely irritating by he takes bold moves and it's really impressive.
Finally, as I always say regarding people who find Star Academy or Lebanese singers and video clips shocking, remote controls are a great inventions: they allow you to do zapping while in the confort of your seats, so whenever a wretched and corrupting Lebanese idea pops on screen, in a press of a button you can switch to more conservative TVs (and get bored to death).
