Gibran, You Will Be Missed

Gibran Twaini

It's amazing how life can change so quickly, literally in a heartbeat. I look back and what i knew yesterday, i look at what i know today. I realize that life can turn 180 degrees in a second.

Today, Senetor Gibran Twaini was assasinated by a car bomb on his way to work. He arrived from Paris yesterday to see his infant twin girls, and the rest of his family in Lebanon. An innocent man of independence was killed because he preached what he believed in...

Only two days ago, he was in a hospital in Paris visiting May Chidiac, whom has gone through a near-death expirience herself. And now, within 48 hours of that visit, he himself is now dead.

I realize at moments like this that we take life for granted. The man probably kissed his wife good-bye, assuming that, as if a normal day, he would see her that evening for dinner. But this day was different for him, because this day was his last. Despite many threats received, he returned to his home country, beautiful, yet dilapidated. The people behinde this evil act will be punished, but not the way they punished the people who loved this man. They will be punished when the day comes that they face their Maker. We do not punish guilt the way they punish innocence. Rafik Hariri,Bassem Faliehan, Samir Kassir, George Hawi, and today, Gibran Twaini will be added to the list of those killed for the love of their country. Survivors such as Elias el Murr, Marwan Hamadeh, and May Chiliac will carry along the terrible near-death expirience for the rest of their lives.

On behalf of all those who love you, Gibran, you will be missed. You may have left us, but your words of hope and peace and independece for your country are here to stay.

ALLAH YIRHAMAK GIBRAN TWAINI

I am so saddened by our loss. Gibran was a great man who was honest and true to his nation, Lebanon. He will be sorely missed. He died a martyr for his country so he will go straight to heaven. By the holy Saints in heaven, we must ALL pray for Gibran's family, especially his wife and his new twin girls. May he rest in the Almighty Father's Heavenly Kingdom in the peace that he deserves. God rest his soul and my Our Lady help and protect his family.

I could not breath when I heard the news. How could we lose that man who always stood his ground when everyone else was changing their skin. He was a true journalist, a man who lived an honest hero and died an honest hero. Now he is one of the many martyrs that are losing their lives for the sake of our country. God rest their souls and especially Gibran's soul a man who inspired me to be a journalist. May god punish whoever did it, the cowards.

I remeber when i was a child coming to Lebanon for holidays with my father and mother, God i never forget i was so exited and father use to say God bless his soul" it is the most beutifull place in the world son" and when we finally arrived and i was only 8 years old mind you i could not belive what i was seeing, i thought God spend a long time creating this wonderfull spot in the world then anywhere else i have being and what a wonderfull holiday it was, people were happy and friendly and everybody seemed so positive and you could feel the life around you and see the beuty of this heaven on earth and i have the most wonderfull memories of my father and mother from there. And then one they it was like that the Devil felt soo much envy for the place that he decided to arrive there and ruin everything personally byhimself present and not only ruined such a beuty but turned love to hate and vevrybody agaist each other and cursed it, it bothered him so much that even seing one beutifull flower florish in the name of God or justice this evil gets so scared that he punics and does everything in his power to do away for any glimpse of light or hope, so what one does facing such evil?? Unite, unite against evil and fight it with goodness and no fear, speake out and stand your ground for the future of your people and the loved ones but do it piecefully, fight hate with love, that is the only Lebanese way it is so sad to know so many diferent kinds of people from all walks of life and race and religion forms the most powerfull contries theses days and Lebanon can not get its affairs in order becouse of this unending evil. Can not wait for the day that it finally happens and the Lebanese people live once more in piece and prosperty so that maybe i can bring my son to remeber me the way i remember my father and this beutifull contry,

There is a song that chills this day even the most scary soul in Sout America called" dont cry for me Argentina as i have never left you" and there is a turkish song that goes" there is a house there far away, that house is our house, it does not matter if we dont go there, it does not matter if we dont stay there, but that house will allways be our house" so my friends no matter what, we can not change who we are, we are muslims and christian or shea added all up we are arabs now just being an arab makes me proud and does not matter the religion becouse when the jugement day comes, we will only be able to answer for our affairs and be judged for that and there wont be any political, religius or circumstancel exuses to save ourselfs, every human is born with one natural gift to separate good from evil even a child knows and feels when he or she has done good or bad my brothers, tell me who will answer for our doings? nobody but our selfs we cant blame anybody else but ourselfs for doing or not doing both good and bad, i know one thing for sure that when i do good i feel it, nobody has to tell me.So what does that tell you?? and i dont care how far away we go from the country we love so much and where we go we are and allways be Lebanese and arabs, look at todays news in Australia, they are throwing racial slogans and beating up our Lebanese brothers and Americans look what they are doing to arabs, do you really think they give a damn about Irak or its people, they made a big mistake and now they are trying to cover it up by blaming Saddam then again he deserve it as he and people like him betrayed their own to start with, as far as i concerned both Saddam and the Americans can go to hell, what concerns me is the mothers that nobody hears that crying for their children and relatives,Palasinian brothers that being pushed to limits of indurance for human suffering by israel, it was not very long ego jews were screaming and suffering in the hands of germans for genoside you would think they learned something from that, no such luck what germans did to them they are doing the same to our palastinian brothers, so nomatter where we are, nomatter where we live , nomatter how tired and scared we are we have to have faith and belive that God loves us to and we are olso his children and he will not and never abonden us but as arabs we have to learn to unite and learn to deal with evil with good and be a nations of piece and freedom and never again feel into the traps of evildoers,so my brothers as for me i am proud to be an arab and i will never leave my land even if i have to die for it, even if i was away i will miss my home so much that i wont be happy anyway, put the canary into a golden cage you know what it will sing. freedom and my tree house, that is me in a nutshell,i will be crying everynight saying Al Araby, Lubnani, further more i can never aboundent my brothers and sisters i would be worried sick thinking what will become of them, no sir i rather stay and fight for freedom, justice in the name and glory of ALLAH,and become dust trying in my own dessert and imaginr if every arab was thinking and feeling like me there is no force on this planet can destroy us and if they do it will be their own destruction and damnation anyway but we will be the ones who will have the mercy of ALLAH not them.so finally all i can say is God bless the people who are from their heart trying and working towards piece and justice for our people and lands and may God olso deal with evildoers who are trying to separate us and destroy us.These are trying and testing times my brothers ,there are lots happening in every imaginable area of our beings, lots of changes are coming, new circumstances being taken place that likes of we never experianced before , we have to be ready, running away never solwed a problrm it only makes it more diffucult to deal with and it does not go away, it fallows us everywhere.Who knows the God forbid there may be more wars coming up to our lands becouse of Iran or Suriya yet, what is the effects of those going to be on our sociaty, we have to think all this and have to be ready but most important of all we have to unite now and be ready for anything and evrything becouse remember others will not have any mercy on us if we dont have one for ourselfs.God bless us all and have his mercy upon us so that we can unite and go back to piecefull living and joy of attending to the care of our families and brothers and prosper for future of our children so that they can be proud of us, AMIN, ya rab.

When Will It Be Clear?? ... When will it be clear to these barbarians (i doubt this discribes them enough, becuase even at earlier times, killing was not an enjoyable thing) that their time in Lebanon is over. 30 years and they have stolen money from the lebanese economy, from the lebanese people .... they were directly responisible for mass slayings (which we are witnessing for the past couple of weeks/ it's not that we (lebanese) didn't know it but it's because we had to prove it to the international community. Gebran Tueni, the person who made leaders (Bashar) scared shitless just from his words (imagine what face to face/ and the latter wouldn't be possible because he wouldn't stoop that low) got assasinated because he is a major voice of freedom of Lebanese People, Lebanese Politics .... Lebanon.

When will it be clear to these "things" that the country which has been feeding them considers them grown enough to go on their own. That the country which tolerated them and their agents (Emile,Elie,Wiam,.... long list actually/ waste of words to mention their names) will not accept this anymore and the people against whom they violated thousands of rights will no longer stand still.

Animals treat each other better than that.

But again, animals are way better then these "thigns".

One of many problems is that "they" are thickheaded they don't get the idea of 'living on you own', qustion start to trigger "Who will we kill now?" , "What poor family will we threat to make them work for us?" "Who will we lead to the parliment (and get personal benifits/not money) from? [although the list is huge]?" and lots more. Questions like that can't be kept unanswered after 30 years, it became routine.

The mass graves all the way from the North to the South still have some "Lebanese" politicians think that the Syrian Goovernment (not Syria) responisible for it. What kind of morons do we have, a ASS could think and they couldn't.
But come to think about it these "figures" are corrupted as much as the "things" that left Lebanon. If the Syrian Government has no more influence in Lebanon then there will be no body to hide against for money laundering, there will be nobody backing them up for weapons (trading and owning) so they will have to lead their old lives back again of being a bunch of "WHOs?" to the world and only "Regulars" to people in their region. Broke is not the word that these people are used to after 30 years!! It's just not right to give up everything that they have stolen for a few million people who are demanding independance.

The presence of these "things" will exist but the only differnce is the clock is ticking and not so many time left.

International Community knows exactly who is doing what but they're just waiting for the final ticks. Lebanon is waiting for the final ticks. Syrians are waiting for the final ticks (at least this what i get from the people i know here ... you never know). And the time will come... OH IT'S TRUE!! ..

To all of the people who lost their lives for Country and Independence (1972 - 2005 god willing) .... may your souls rest in peace ... and hope that you will be looking from up above on Lebanon and the Lebanese people and we hope that we make you proud.

For the "things" (Syrian Government & Corrupted Lebanese) may your souls rott in hell... face worse than a car bomb and being torn into peices and never enjoy a second of what you got out of stealing money and hopes which belonged to the lebanese people.

You are getting out of options, you kidnapp, we face you, you kill, we face you, you steal, we face you.... right now let's hope that the international community will do the right thing before another person pays life as the price of freedom.

    God Bless You All .....

They could not take away his pen that attacked them for years, so the cowards took away his life. However, many more will come and Lebanon will retain its former Glory. Lebanon is for the Lebanese, try as they might to change the facts. As his name sake Gibran Khalil Gibran said the significance of a person is not what he attains but what he tries to attain. Gibran Twaini attained so much in his life, also he wanted to attain a free Lebanon, a noble cause. This is a loss not only to the Lebanese but also to all arab Journalists whom Gibran fought for their rights over the years.
He was a man, the cowards that did that to him are nothing but slimy worms who will be stepped on soon enough, if not now when they meet their maker. What comes around goes around.

It's sad what's going on in lebanon but for moi and the people who blame syria I don't think it's solution. I'm not the fan of bashar I hated his father and now the son. But if i was you guys I will not put my hand with the devils to beat Bashar. All this killing is bigger than Syria and I don't think they has something to do with it. I stopped believing in the media after september 11. We are not having the hole picture. The media and the people who are doing this are giving us a snapshot from the picture that they want us to see. Sorry for the loss and I hope one day we can have a look at the picture. May His Soul Rest in Peace

    Moi
    Just a question you said
syria and all the evil lowlife scumbags like 7izbullah and the palestinians have blood on their hands
Who has Plastiniens Sabra and Chatila blood in his hand. And I repeat I'm not pro Syrian and I hate fanatic relegious like Hezballah but It looks like you are not objective you are taking one side and made up your mind who's the responsable and you don't want to hear anything else. It's your choice but like I told the problem is bigger and deeper than just Syria.

  1. A | December 13, 2005 2:47 PM

Nobody in lebanon was innocent, all had blood on there hands, the lebanese christians, the lebanese sunni muslims, the lebanese shia muslims, the palestinians, the syrians so i get suprised to see people here write things as if there part had nothing to do with it. And people, if u ever want a free country, u must move forward and stop blaming each other for everything and take a look at your own people and crowd and then you will see that nobody is innocent and nobody is fully responsible for what happend and is happening in lebanon so to you "MOI" , you need to comprehend what happend in lebanon and stop blaming only one part and take a look at your own part and see that everybody had blood on there hands.

And how can u say may u burn in hell to the girl that said that gibran should burn in hell? You are against her for saying that yet u want her to burn in hell?

This is a typical double standard that exists in lebanon and lebanese have to much hate in them and u should really forgive ur so called enemies because by hating them you hate a entire nation and im sure of the fact that very very few of those you always blame hate you so enough with the hate.

All of you claim that you love lebanon and want it to be free but how can it be free when ur minds arent free? How can it be free when you are still living in the war that already has ended? How can it be free when you continue to blame each other and blame others and not take part of your (your peoples) own actions?

If all of you would stop blaming others and stop blaming each other, then and only then lebanon can be free but untill that happens lebanon will only dig it self down and everything will just get worse.

When will you see that by continuing blaming people nothing is going to change to the better?

Should a person be punished just because he or she has the same national background or religious background as someone who fought in the lebanese war?

If thats the kind of thinking u have then lebanon never will be free and it will always be a country full of hate where everyone hate everyone and hate will lead to more hate and it will continue like this.

If you really want it to be free then look forward instead of backwards.

And nobody can accuse be of being anti lebanese or something like that. Im not anti lebanese, i want lebanon to be free and i want the people there to live in peace with each other and stop hating and blaming others that doesnt have the same religion as them etc.

    Move forward, thats my opinion.

Im waiting for moi to answer fetfets comment.
Moi, u should wake up and see that everyone suffered in lebanon, EVERYONE and all civilians were innocent so stop blaming the palestinians, the syrians etc etc, u cant blame an entire people of what happend during a war.
