How Do You Judge Them?

When you watch shows like Star Academy or Super Star, how do you judge or vote for the contestants? Do you judge them by there looks, voice, where they're from, or their personality? Well whatever you do, do you think it's fair if you vote for their looks or where they come from etc... ?

They might be the ones with the bad voice who made it to the finals, not all the time, but that's what it usually turns out to be...

Usually others don't have a chance because of where they come from, or if they're ugly, or they're mean, too shy, or if they're conceited.

So I just want to know how do you judge them?

And do you think this voting is fair?

i believe that Star Academy is a great show, but i do agree with Rana on what she said as far as people voting for the wrong reasons. I think the show should be done differently, for example people can vote on who they want in the beginning when the student are stil 16 or less but when it comes down to the last six i believe the teachers should make that choices, because i think there are students that leave the Academy and they not suppose to leave.

hey guys..first i wany\t to mention rana thats a interesting topic to think about!!
ok well me i judge the consestants by thier voice look and personality...i dont really care where which country thier from..thier all arabs(however i always wanted a lebanese consestant to win)anyways where they come rom doesnt really matter but wat makes me mad is that sometimes the right and good consestants reach the end and then all the votes goes to the consestant with country that has the mosy money)like masr and saudia)i dont think thats fair for the other consestants who reach the finals. to tell u guys the truth i just watch staracademy for the fun and entertainment of iit..

Hisham had the voice, personnality and a decsent look...but he won...

we should look at all arabs as our extended countrymen. If we treated each other equally, with love and respec, we would better our lives greatly.

I think the voting should be like World SuperStar. People can not vote for their fellow countryman but they will vote for contenstants from another country. The best contestant who got the majority of vote will be the winner. I think it should be applied here too. Then again LBC or Future will not make such arrangement because they will lose millions of dollars.

Well Rana, the topic is interesting to debate although the answer is clear: everybody is going to vote for the candidate who comes from his/her own country no matter how ugly, uneducated he is (both winners were men) or even if he doesn't have a voice at all (both Attiya or Hichem are really apathetic singers, and the idea that one day they may sing in front of an audiance seems very amusing)!! this is in fact too bad for Arab countries which are not as populated as Egypt or as rich as Saudi Arabia (remember the roses story in starac 2 and how the Saudi wanted to ridiculously show off.. they drowned Hicham with roses not knowing that roses can't be given to gentlemen (unless there's another explanation!!(??)..) but GOOD TASTE AND MANNERS ARE THINGS MONEY CAN'T BUY!!!(sorry!)

This example is meant to show that it's not a question of enthusiastic teenagers voting for their idol, it is deeper than that; it is some sort of a never-ending, absurd competition between the Middle-East and the Maghreb and within the middle east, between the Gulf countries and the rest, the haves and the havenots,etc..

Staracademy in Europe revealed such great artists and beautiful voices among youths and allowed them to express their art to the public that appreciated.. but you can never expect the same result or any objectivity here, no matter how lenghthily people talk about the "no difference about arabs" bla bla bla..

Maybe they should change the system as someone said allowing a jury to interfere in order to guarantee a minimum credibility and honesty althoug I doubt that this is the aim of LBC..it just all about..MONEY!! never mind art and good taste as long as they fill their pockets!

    IT MAKES ME SICK!!!

    hi just someone,
i understood that you are a fan of attiya (or am i wrong?).. you're absolutely free and i have never even thought to tell people whom to admire..but let's be honest, a lot of people voted for attiya because he is funny and i admit that he has a good sense of humor..but do you think that it's enough to be a pop star? if it were a competition of actors, i would tell you that he is the best and the most creative actor in the group, but as a singer he would never reach the level of ahmad cherif, bashar, or bahaa.. too high for him .. but because he is a sympathetic guy, people don't pay particular attention to his voice or the mistakes he makes when singing..but do you think that is fair? in a competition that is supposed to reveal the best voices and young talented singers in arab countries??? (we really need a change from all the hayfa wahbis and nancy ajrams who can never sing without playback and pitch effects..and i think you saw the real level of all the guest stars who came to starac 2005 primes.. most of them were simply ridiculous..making intolerable mistakes in their own songs..)
the problem is that it is going to be the same thing every time, but it's going to be worse each time and look at starac 2005, the star is a lazy guy of average voice who never worked or made any effort, always making mistakes in primes and never learning the lyrics of the songs he should perform in front of the public, but winning at the end and taking the place of the revelation who by far deserves to be the star, i mean amani.. you know my friend, this is completely absurd and frustrating, because in the future the best strategy is to try to be as funny as possible (and may the best comic win).. and of course no need to make a lot of effort and work if you're entering the competition against a saudi, for he/she is going to win even if he is...dumb!!!

    what a waste of time!

hey Fennen or fenfen thank god Amani didnt win starac, she's one major weirdo.... she shuold just sit at home and sing to her family. cause she was real annoying... hisham shouldnt have won, but good thing he beat amani...and last time there was a saudi and he didnt win, so u cant say saudis win all the time....Egyptians won too ;ppp ull get ur chance to brag ,... sometime in the future maybe.. maybe

fennen i read ur comment but i cant tell u how many times u changed the subject without acutally getting to ur point...i mean atieh has a good voice is funny and a good actor...but i dont care if atieh or bashar won because mashallah he has a good voice but..it doesnt matter where there from because no matter wat the country isnt stupid and is gonna vote for someone without a good voice...i respect all the countries and i am sure the arent gonna vote for someone with a bad voice...being funny is one thing having a good voice is another atieh however had both!

    just someone
  1. fennen | July 23, 2005 7:23 PM

    dear kokowawa or kakawawa,

it really requires a lot of courage and honesty to admit that what is good is good and what sucks really sucks..doing this however is the only hope that the thousands of young talents in the arab world are not sacrificed for the sake of fake ones (hey aboulhichhh) who are responsible for all the mediocrities our tv channels are bombarding us with everyday..good only for fat arab housewives whose brains do not work beyond egyptian soap operas of love, marriage and belly dancing (by the way, aboulhich can have a role in one of them, he really fits..)
whatever, the brothers rahabani found that amani was not as "boring" as you thought and that she should not "sing for her family alone" and engaged her to sing in their new work..hopefully no false artists will be there, and thank god, no votes for the saudi to buy..
"ppp ull get ur chance to brag ,... sometime in the future maybe.. maybe" (whatever!!)

  1. fennen | July 23, 2005 7:49 PM

hey just someone.. i do not wish to start a technical argument to show you that attiya's voice is not convincing at all for a pop star..as a matter of fact, i don't care.. but any connaisseur would tell you that he is the less deserving candidate.. now be honest if you disagree and you think he's the best, it's ok.. feel free..
but i invite you to reflect upon this:
think how many young talents (probably you're one of them) there are in the arab world and will never have the chance to come under the light..when there is an opportunity such as starac, the result is frustrating..

to fennen, at first you judged attia and hisham that they weren't well educated i just wanna tell you that attia goes to an excellant faculty which require high grades in egypt, he was nominated twice before reaching the finals but ahmed el cherif (by the way i like him alot) was nominated four about 4 times. from your words i think that you are a tunisian and i'm gonna tell you just one thing if you hate egypt that much please don't watch our soap opras and don't run after our singers, producers and directors to be stars like latifa, zekra and saber el roba3e and by the way attia and hisham won because they had an excellant personality, I think the artist should have an excellant character in order to let people love him and being in a reality t.v. shows that.

  1. fennen | July 24, 2005 1:59 PM

sorry to disappoint you but i'm not tunisian (is the reason of your attack the comment i wrote in french? by the way, HOW OLD ARE YOU?)

whatever, the soap operas you mentioned all suck (look for a definition of soap opera in a dictionary..) very rare are the products of quality.. india is the biggest cinema producer in the world after the states, but do they produce anything of quality? what i mean is (and HERE'S ANOTHER TOPIC FOR DISCUSSION GIRLS & GUYS) that it's better to produce one work of quality rather than a thousand ones that do nothing but reinforce the idea that ARABS ARE ONLY CAPABLE OF BULLSHIT, which is not true of course but look at what we have: fawazir, belly dancers, actors who have been doing the same role all their life, and the list is long... most of that is very vulgar and of a very archaic and bad taste..(what is the last egyptian movie or serial of quality??? i'm afraid there's no answer..)
for god's sake we're in the 21st century and we're still stagnating while the rest of the world is really taking off.. and what makes the thing worse is that one must not dare criticize.. we should keep on applauding bullshit otherwise it becomes a matter of hatred between tunisian and egyptian, libanese and syrian, kuwaiti and iraqi.. and so on and so forth..

i don't know whether you understand french or not but what i wrote was that there should be no hate..

one last thing, all the tunisian artists that you mentioned are among the rare artists of quality who could make it in the arab world although i'm not one of their fans..

thank you for reacting to what i write.. it means that arabs are not as indifferently receptive as i sometimes think they are..

    PEACE & LOVE
