46% of Americans suffer From mental disorders ranging from anxiety, depression to substance abuse in their lifetime...!
Within the past year, about 25 percent of all Americans met the criteria for having a mental illness, and fully 25 percent of those had a serious disorder that significantly disrupted their ability to function day to day, according to a one year and a half survey of the country's mental health, conducted by the University of Michigan.
Why do you think the results of the study turned out as they did? Should Americans change their way of living? What do you think?

Well, for starters, i think they should change their way of living becasue the result show the effect of their stress and etc.
In another case i think that it's there life and they should live it in whatever they want. It's not our business and not it's not there busness to tell us our way of life.
Honestly, I am not suprised at all. May be those who argued in other posts had some disabilities & disorders; hence it proves a lot of my points.

Living in the USA makes a persons way of thinking change completely. People become very patriotic even though they are originally arab. I can find many Americans who would agree with me, exactly like you can find many Arabs who agree with you. That is not my point.

Americans have a very stressful life...they are money driven...and the most paying jobs are commission based...you have to plan for your retirement, and need to be employed to have healthcare....If a person looses a job they can easily have a mental illness with all the bills they have to take care...!!
I know few people who works with me have anxiety...I guess it's pretty normal for the American life which is very hard....unlike the liddle East where people live stress free. The difference is we have more opportunity in the US to succeed and speak openely that our coutries...

Do not say all Americans have a very stressful life and do not even say that all Middle-Easterns live stress-free. That is totally incorrect. & besides why do you always make useless conclusions?! How can you prove such thing? The only reason you guys have more opportunities is because you have more sources. More sources in the sense of career wise and others..
& besides you can't compare salary of each job. America is a huge country catering for millions and millions. Countries in the Middle-East have a small population comapred to those of the US. So how awkward are you to compare such thing and say the highest paying jobs are commission based. Speak openely you said. What makes you so sure we don't speak openly within ourselves?! I know for a fact that in both the UAE and Kuwait we speak openly. But when we speak openly we dont need to address the world. We are not Americans! Our main goal isn't always to convey the message in the wrong way.
Moreover, we are discussing mental disorders in the United States. What brought the Middle-East into this? All you have to do is discuss this specific post which speaks abou American and 46% of them having mental disorders.

I am the one living in the US, and I'm speaking about a big percentage based on statistics...of course there is exception to each role....
Mr. smart I spoke about the American life ..because a lot of stress, depression, anxiety has somehow to do with people's job...the reason I brought up the middle East because we are from there......I was comparing two societies in order to get to a personal conclusion....I don't know about Kuwait or UAE..but based on the people I know from there they confirmed that lif is stress free....All this is my personal opinion and there is no need MR. to get upset or on the defensive!!!...
As far as speaking openely ...people from khaleej and Morroco are so scared to talk about government or kings and queens!! while democratic countries have tendency to say their opinion without getting in trouble!!

I don't know if you read the message I sent carefully. I hate the fact twhen you say people from Khaleej. Please try to specify. As I mentioned above, the UAE and Kuwait are trying to become democratic in one way or another. It takes time. Countries in the Middle-East are just about 30 years old, that is why we are called third-world and that is why democratic movements are new to us.
You call your country democratic! Democratic in which sense?! The re-election of President Bush?! Ha .. ? & besides your country was there a long time before, compared to us.
Please do not compare societies when they differ completely. Why don't you compare the United Kingdom to the US? I don't think its a good idea, is it?!
Why am I defensive? What type of question is that?! I really think disorders has a big say in this. Hello!!! You try to bring the negative side to our countries only; you expect me as a citizen to be quiet and listen. May be you are not used to seeing arabs stand up for the rights; well then I am pelased to say "nice to meet you".

I'd be interested to see the source for the 46% statistic. The reports I've heard have put the incidence of mental illness in the US in the 25% range.
Nonetheless, reported rates of mental illness are much higher in the US than in any other country in the world.
