Rania had her first baby 2 weeks ago on April 14th at a hospital in her home country Jordan, it was a boy, and they named him "Sharif Ryan". Rania is very happy in her first experience as a mother and she is going to stay in Jordan for a while untill she regains her health completely.
Rania Kurdi is a singer and the presenter of Future Super Star program for its first and second season. Superstar 3 will be presented by Miss Egypt 2004 Heba El-Sisy along with Ayman Kaisouni.

So why both SuperStar presenters are Egyptian? Why can't a Lebanese be one of them to add some flavor to the event? After all, most are beautiful and cute, besides, this is a Lebanese event held in Lebanon.
On a different note, can anyone tell me why most Miss Egypt are Christian?!

I know it DOESN'T MATTER, but I'm just asking out of curiousity. They named their son "Sherif Ryan". I know that some Arab Muslims give their daughters non-Arabic names like Joelle and Nancy, but Muslims NEVER give their *sons* such non-Arabic names as Ryan. I know Rania has a European mother and a mixed Arab-Kurdish father, but I doubt that she would be Christian since most Arabs and Kurds are Muslim, and her husband is Jordanian (mostly Muslim), so I'm just confused her. Can anyone explain?
Michel,
many muslims give the name "Rayan" to their sons (i guess that Rayan was a muslim leader). My friend is married to an american girl, they named their son Rayan coz in english it could be pronounced "Ryan". so, it's a double use name. besides, muslims don't use generally western names.
Congratulations to Rania.
i have HOT news..
Hisham and Ahmad H were in dubai on saturday!
my sis bumped into them in city center.
she said they really looked nice.
=)
Rayan is a door from the doors of Heaven ...Jana
Walid has a point here
I know many Lebanese Muslims married to christian foreing women who tend to give their sons names that could sound right in both cultures.
I know in particualr a Lebanese army general who is Sunni and married to a Catholic American woman from Texas. They gave their son the name Zane which befits both cultures just fine.
In Lebanon it is pronounces Zein, (in reference to Zein al Abidin) and in the US Zane a name though of Hebrew origin is mostly widespread in Texas.(Ironically, since Hebrew and Arabic are both semitic language and therefore quite similar, Zane means ornament or decoration which is the exact translation of Arabic Zein)
Same applies for Ryan and Jad ecc
However as Michel pointed out Rania's mother is Irish (most probably an Catholic) and she had her education in England so it is only logical to give her baby a name adaptable with her western background.
(Sorry for the typing mistake, it's just I post these comment quickly while taking a break from work)
Michel,
Rania is not kurdish, she's jordanian,KURDI is just her last name, it's a family in jordan, her husband is a jordanian muslim too, and (ryan) is an arabic name...
Manar
Rania actually is Kurdish and not only that
In her very own website she mentions her mixed background (Arab, Kurdish, Irish and Circassian blood)
http://www.raniakurdi.com/bio_page.htm
You can check it out by yourself
To Manar also
Rayan is Arabic While RYAN is a Gaelic name meaning "little king. Gaelic being of course the Celtic language spoken in Ireland, which proves my theory of Rania paying homage to her Irish background by naming her son Ryan.
you guys have drifted from the subject, why does it always have to become a political/religious conversations, just be happy she had a baby and congratulate her this topic of religion isnt in the right place.
Just to state a fact, Rania Al-Kurdi is Jordanian because it's a known family in Jordan and they are not kurds,i know people in the Al-Kurdi family and they are not kurds and she is free to name her child whatever she wants so dont judge her on that.
Thank you
She says herself that she is kurdish
check her website
Circassians (Sharkas) are plentiful in Jordan; they mostly live in southern Jordan, Karak, for example. Most came from Russia, and many are blond/blue-eyed Christians.
