Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova will play at the Japan Open tennis tournament next month. The 17-year-old Russian is the defending champion at the Japan Open.

She is set to be the top seeded women's player at the tournament.

Sharapova, now ranking at seven in WTA, beat two-time defending champion Serena Williams to win Wimbledon for her first Grand Slam title in July.
